Edgewood Elementary School, a high-performing and award-winning learning community committed to excellence for every student, is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Special Education Long-Term Substitute Teacher to join our team. This position offers an opportunity to work in a collaborative, student-centered environment where educators are empowered to make a meaningful impact on the academic, social-emotional, and behavioral growth of learners.
The successful candidate will foster an inclusive and supportive classroom environment that promotes student achievement, independence, and confidence. Working closely with special education and general education staff, families, and support personnel, the Long-Term Substitute Teacher will provide specialized instruction and implement individualized supports that help students reach their fullest potential.
Essential Responsibilities
- Provide high-quality instruction aligned with Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) and district curriculum expectations.
- Support students in developing academic skills in reading, writing, mathematics, communication, and social-emotional learning.
- Implement learning accommodations, modifications, and specialized instructional strategies to meet diverse student needs.
- Utilize positive behavioral interventions and classroom management techniques that promote student engagement, independence, and success.
- Collaborate with general education teachers, related service providers, administrators, and families to ensure coordinated support for students.
- Monitor student progress and maintain accurate documentation related to instructional and behavioral goals.
- Create a safe, welcoming, and inclusive learning environment where all students are valued and supported.
- Assist students in achieving intellectual, emotional, social, and physical growth and development.
- Provide guidance and direction to paraprofessionals and educational assistants supporting students within the classroom setting.
- Participate in team meetings, professional collaboration, and school-wide initiatives as appropriate.
Qualifications
- Valid Wisconsin teaching license with Special Education certification preferred.
- Knowledge of special education practices, instructional accommodations, and positive behavior support strategies.
- Ability to build strong relationships with students, colleagues, and families.
- Strong communication, collaboration, and organizational skills.
- Commitment to fostering equity, inclusion, and high expectations for all learners.
