Summary

This is a hands-on prototype automotive painting and body-prep position.

The person will take prototype vehicles or components through the finishing process, including body preparation, painting, color/finish matching, defect correction, cutting, buffing, and polishing.

This is not just a production spray-painter position. Is looking for someone who has worked on rapid prototypes and can collaborate with design, engineering, and fabrication teams while vehicle designs are still evolving.

1. Prototype Automotive Painting

• 3+ years of automotive painting focused on rapid prototypes
• Experience completing high-quality prototype finishes
• Able to work in a fast-changing prototype environment

2. Body & Paint Preparation

• 5+ years of paint preparation/body work
• Filling
• Sanding
• Cleaning
• Priming
• Masking

3. Automotive Painting & Finishing

Hands-on experience with:

Spray Painting | Material Preparation | Spray Equipment Setup | Film Build Control | Multi-Tone Finishes | Defect Avoidance

4. Finish Matching

Must be able to match an approved master for:

Color | Gloss | Texture

They also need to know how to determine whether the finished result falls within an acceptable appearance range.

5. Cut, Buff & Polish

Experience:

• Cutting finished surfaces
• Hand polishing
• Machine polishing
• Correcting paint defects
• Achieving required gloss/appearance
• Avoiding burn-through

6. Design & Engineering Collaboration

• 3+ years working collaboratively with design and engineering
• Work with design, engineering, and fabrication during prototype builds
• Adjust to changing requirements and design intent
• Support prototype build timing and milestones

7. Education

• Associate degree required
