Machinist

Start your new career as a Machinist with MAU at UME in Thomson, GA. As a Machinist, you will operate CNC and manual machine tools, including lathes and milling machines, to produce precision parts while maintaining quality and efficient production operations.

What We're Looking For:

• High school diploma or GED
• Vocational school training or apprenticeship
• Experience using and/or programming manual, semi-automated, or automated tools and machines, including lathes and grinders
• Ability to use precision measuring tools, such as calipers
• Ability to read blueprints, schematics, and manuals
• Knowledge of metal properties and other materials
• Basic reading and writing skills
• Strong mathematical and analytical skills
• Physical stamina and strength to lift heavy items
• Negative drug test

What You'll Do as a Machinist:

• Review samples, drawings, and instructions to understand production specifications
• Take measurements and mark materials for cutting or shaping
• Plan the sequence of actions necessary to complete each job
• Select appropriate machines, including lathes, and position or load materials
• Operate CNC, manual, and automated machining equipment
• Monitor machines and adjust feed rates, maintain temperatures, and identify issues
• Determine and program batch sizes and machine speeds
• Monitor finished output to ensure consistency with specifications and discard defective parts
• Perform routine machine maintenance and minor repairs
• Complete other relevant duties as assigned by the direct supervisor
