The Marine Mechanic is responsible for carrying out daily duties such as repairing, maintaining, and troubleshooting marine diesel engines, outboard engines, generators, transmissions, drive train, HVAC, plumbing, pumps, holding tanks, and electrical equipment.

The right person will be adaptable, dynamic, and embody City Experiences RESPECT Service System.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Perform all preventative maintenance: fluids check/replacement, transmission, battery, lighting, generators, engines, sea strainer, alarms, etc.
  • Troubleshoot, evaluate, and repair faulty mechanical systems.
  • Indicate to management when 3rd party contractors are needed.
  • Troubleshoot, evaluate, repair, and replace plumbing systems (PVC, ABS, copper, galvanized, and black iron).
  • Troubleshoot, evaluate, repair, and replace hydraulic systems (steering, etc.).
  • Respond to service calls at various pier locations and/or underway vessels; be flexible for emergencies as needed.
  • Troubleshoot 12/24 Volt DC systems and generators and repair as needed; repair electrical systems such as 110/220/440 AC/DC.
  • Recommend 3rd party contractors to management as needed.
  • Operate hand tools, power tools, and hand electrical tools.
  • Perform proper hazardous waste management and disposal.
  • Maintain accurate records (both paper and electronic) for purchasing, work orders, engine hours, and fluid levels.
  • Identify the need for replacement parts and order using engine and machinery manuals.
  • Record preventative maintenance (PM) and one-time maintenance (OM) in Wheelhouse database.
  • Maintain a safe work environment, promote best practices, and work indoor/outdoor in a variety of weather conditions.
  • Assist with ordering replacement and spare parts as needed.
  • Always maintain a clean and organized work environment.
  • Responsible for the upkeep/accountability of all vessels that need carpentry, paint, other repairs, etc., to assist the Director of Maintenance (includes storage of company-provided tools).
  • Additional job duties as assigned.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • At least 2 years of experience with marine diesel applications, gasoline, hydraulics.
  • At least 2 years mechanical experience.
  • Some familiarity with Microsoft Office, in particular Word and Excel.
  • BS or Associates degree in mechanical, marine, or industrial engineering preferred.
  • Certificates or schooling for HVAC, welding, plumbing, electrical, mechanical preferred.
  • Mathematics knowledge as it pertains to the position.
