THE ROLE

We are seeking a Maintenance II employee to join our team and help drive our continued success. This role plays an important part in supporting our customers, strengthening our business, and contributing to the long-term growth of Douglas Dynamics.

HOW YOU WILL CONTRIBUTE

Perform highly diversified duties to install, maintain, and repair machinery, equipment, physical structures, pipe and electrical systems in the manufacturing plant and office.

In this role, you will leverage your skills, experience, and perspective to make a meaningful impact. You’ll collaborate with teammates across the organization, contribute ideas, and help deliver results that matter for our customers and our business.

HOW YOU’LL MAKE A DIFFERENCE
  • Perform general repairs and preventive maintenance on specialized machines including, but not limited to punch presses, press brakes, profile burning machines, CNC machining centers, compressors, welders, mobile equipment, lathes, and mills. Read and interpret drawings, manuals, and work orders to perform required service.
  • Layout, install, and modify compressed air and hydraulic plumbing for various machines and tooling.
  • Diagnose minor problems and repair/replace defective components, controls, and printed circuit boards on malfunctioning equipment such as transformers, motors, conveyors, heating/cooling systems, lighting fixtures, electrical equipment, and automated controls
  • Conduct visual and functional inspections of diverse types of machinery and equipment. Consult with other maintenance team members to diagnose and troubleshoot problems. Work with OEM machine technicians as required to understand machine function and operation.
  • Plan and install the power supply wiring and conduits for 110V & multiphase/voltage electricity for new machinery and equipment such as robots, conveyors, and programmable controllers (preferred).
  • Understand electrical concepts to perform wiring tasks on basic circuits.
  • Build, repair, and install counters, cabinets, benches, partitions, doors, framework, and trim
  • Perform basic plumbing tasks.
  • Safely operate all hand and power tools common to the skills listed such as cutting torches, welders, saws, lathes, mills, etc.
  • Work in a safe manner and observe all safety procedures including but not limited to the proper use of the man-lift and forklift, lock out/tag out, HAZMAT, Personal Protective Equipment, Confined Space, and electrical safety procedures.
  • Initiate purchase orders for needed parts. Work with GSS and vendors to obtain these parts and install as needed. Record and log information into the computerized maintenance management system to track work orders, parts, and labor.
  • Follow all company rules, procedures, and policies.
  • Work with machine operators to implement TPM (Total Productive Maintenance) plans.
  • Complete other related duties as assigned.
WHAT THIS ROLE NEEDS

Education/Experience: Associate degree or equivalent from a two-year college or technical school desired or two to five years of experience in related work areas preferred. Training or experience with TPM, Maintenance management software, Excel, and Google search tools desired.

Required Skills and Competencies:

  1. Able to read, write, add, subtract, multiply, and divide. Able to use measuring devices and interpret drawings, specifications, and manuals.
  2. Able to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
  3. Must be comfortable working in a team environment consisting of employees and outside contractors.
  4. Required to demonstrate good judgment when performing and planning to perform the specified tasks.

Hours required

While the person performing this job will generally work a set 40-hour schedule, the nature of the work makes it necessary for the person to be willing and able to work overtime, to change the working schedule to meet maintenance needs, and to work on call for emergency situations.

•Schedule: Sunday, Friday, and Saturday, with additional hours as required to meet business needs.

Experience and/or Training:

  1. Mitsubishi laser cutting experience.
  2. Cincinnati and Bystronic presses experience.
  3. Rotoline machine experience.
  4. PLC programming and troubleshooting.
  5. Basic troubleshooting and repair of mechanical/electrical systems.
  6. Welding, cutting, brazing, and metal fabrication experience.
  7. Hydraulic components and hydraulic system experience.
  8. Press brake experience.
  9. CNC machine and/or machining center experience.
  10. Air compressor, pneumatic systems, air dryer, refrigeration system experience, HVAC, and ductwork experience. HVAC and refrigeration recovery certification a plus.
  11. Forklift, mobile equipment, scissor lift, and articulating lift experience.
  12. Mobile equipment or mechanic’s experience a plus
