Maintenance Mechanic (Day/Night Shift)

We are looking to add an individual to our manufacturing team in Houston (Crosby) in our maintenance department (NIGHTS). Priority will be given to individuals with experience performing maintenance on industrial equipment, with experience in automation/hydraulics.

Shift: 12 hours- Wed-Sat (NIGHTS 7pm-7am) (Days 7a-7p) - Some Split Shifts

Wage: Depending on Experience + shift premiums

Will be responsible for maintaining continuous machine reliability, diagnosing complex equipment failures, and executing preventive maintenance across our high-tonnage rubber processing cells. This role demands a strong background in industrial hydraulics, mechanical power transmission, heavy automated machinery, and foundational electrical troubleshooting under fast-paced manufacturing conditions.

Key Responsibilities & Job Duties

Diagnostic & Emergency Repair: Troubleshoot mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical equipment failures during night-shift production to minimize plant downtime. Hydraulic & Pneumatic Systems: Maintain, rebuild, and adjust high-pressure hydraulic systems, proportional valves, directional spools, heavy cylinders, power units, and pneumatic logic on high-tonnage presses and compounding machinery. Multi-Craft Maintenance: Perform multi-skilled repairs spanning mechanical power transmission (gearboxes, chain drives, bearings, alignment), vacuum systems, plumbing, basic structural fabrication, and electrical fault tracing. CMMS & Work Order Administration: Accurately log hours, detailed work order completion notes, labor metrics, and spare parts usage in the plant Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS). Assist in creating work orders and planning upcoming outage tasks. Preventive Maintenance (PM): Execute scheduled PM inspections, equipment calibrations, and predictive maintenance protocols; actively contribute to continuous improvement efforts and machinery upgrades. Cross-Functional Communication: Maintain clear, daily communication with night shift maintenance peers, shift electricians, lead technicians, and production supervisors regarding equipment status, handovers, and safety updates. EHS & Quality Compliance: Enforce and adhere to all Health & Safety legislation, company safety programs (including Lockout/Tagout, Machine Guarding, and NFPA 70E), and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP).

Qualifications & Requirements

Experience: Minimum 3+ years of hands-on industrial maintenance experience within a manufacturing environment (experience in rubber, polymers, heavy manufacturing, or oilfield equipment processing strongly preferred). Technical Expertise: Demonstrated hands-on expertise in Industrial Hydraulics is required. Electrical Skills: Practical experience with industrial electrical troubleshooting (multimeter usage, motor control circuits, reading schematics, 480V 3-phase power, proximity sensors) is a major plus. Automation Familiarity: Prior experience working alongside automated machinery, PLC input/output hardware diagnostics, VFD drives, or robot cell interlocks. Work Ethic & Soft Skills:

Proven ability to work both independently during night shifts and constructively as a dependable team player. Strong decision-making, root-cause troubleshooting, and multi-tasking skills under pressure. Positive attitude with a drive to learn and take ownership of shop floor reliability.

Physical & Environmental Demands: Ability to work a 12-hour night shift in a heavy industrial setting (heat, high pressure, continuous machine operation), lift up to 50 lbs, and navigate ladders/scaffolding safely.
