Job Purpose
To assure the reliability of equipment at targeted levels and to repair equipment that fails in a safe, effective, and efficient manner. The job holder will strive to elevate operational uptime through preventative and predictive maintenance activities with a focus on continuous improvement.
Principal Accountabilities
PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:
- Promote a safe working environment by using safe work procedures daily and advising proper guidelines for the purchase, installation, and safe maintenance of mechanical equipment on the plant site.
- Assist in diagnosis of problems to a root cause failure and facilitate repairs as needed.
- To provide expertise to help develop reliability improvements and then assist with implementing approved projects.
- Focus on continuous improvement to achieve reduction in downtime for mechanical activities
- Installation, repair, and maintenance of pumps and associated equipment.
- Installation, service, and repair of all mechanical seal types.
- Utilize the work order system to track and complete daily job duties
- Complete all other mechanical responsibilities as assigned by the Methacrylates Maintenance Supervisor.
- Support and comply with all requirements of the Environmental Management System (EMS).
SPECIAL FEATURES:
- Additional requirements are to work a fair share of available overtime, be available for off duty call in.
- Employees may begin as a "B" Mechanic but must acquire skills required of an "A" Mechanic within 6 months to 1 year of hire date.
Knowledge / Skills / Experience
KNOWLEDGE/ EXPERIENCE/SKILLS:
- Three or more years' experience in maintaining a chemical plant.
- Knowledge of relevant OSHA safety rules.
- Obtain an acceptable score on the appropriate Work Keys skill tests.
- Possess the following basic mechanical skills:
- Able to read/interpret mechanical drawings (single line, schematic, P&I)
- Use basic hand tools and operate basic shop tools
- Measure, sketch, fabricate, and install threaded pipe
- Knowledge of safe access to work including scaffolding requirements
- Align a pump with a motor using a dial indicator instrument
- Able to install a cartridge-type pump seal
- Able to torque tighten various threaded fasteners
- Properly use chokers to rig equipment
- Knowledge of the basics of structural steel welding
- Use computer systems to research technical documents
- Able to thread, fit, and leak test piping and device
Possess three or more of the following advanced skills:
- Code weld pipe in the 6G position
- Perform laser alignment
- Perform and interpret vibration analysis
- Able to field-balance rotating equipment
- Qualified to inspect and repair rigging
- Qualified to design and apply online leak repairs
- Able to inspect, test, and overhaul relief devices

- The salary for this position is $42.98. Factors such as scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's work experience, education/training, job-related skills, internal peer equity, as well as market and business considerations may influence base pay offered. This salary will be subject to a geographic adjustment (according to a specific city and state), if an authorization is granted to work outside of the location listed in this posting.
