Maintenance Mechanic
Department: Operations
Location: Strandcore
Reports To: Maintenance/Operations Manager
Schedule: Full-Time | Overtime may be required
Position Summary
The Maintenance Mechanic is responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, repairing, installing, and improving industrial machinery and mechanical equipment to support safe and efficient plant operations. This position plays a critical role in minimizing equipment downtime through preventative maintenance, timely repairs, and effective troubleshooting.
The ideal candidate has strong mechanical skills, experience working with industrial equipment, and the ability to diagnose problems and determine the appropriate repair or adjustment.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Follow all company safety policies, housekeeping standards, quality requirements, and standard operating procedures.
- Perform preventative and corrective maintenance on industrial machinery and equipment.
- Inspect, troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair mechanical equipment and machinery to identify the cause of malfunctions and prevent recurring issues.
- Install, align, dismantle, relocate, assemble, and rebuild stationary industrial machinery and equipment.
- Read and interpret blueprints, mechanical drawings, schematics, manuals, and equipment specifications.
- Troubleshoot, repair, and maintain power transmission systems, including belts, chains, gears, bearings, shafts, and related components.
- Install, troubleshoot, and maintain hydraulic, pneumatic, and vacuum systems.
- Adjust, repair, rebuild, or replace defective machine components as needed.
- Use hand tools, power tools, welding equipment, and machine shop equipment to complete repairs and fabricate or modify parts.
- Operate equipment such as welders, grinders, lathes, and other machine tools as required.
- Assemble and disassemble machinery using appropriate tools and equipment.
- Lubricate, clean, adjust, and perform routine maintenance on machinery and equipment.
- Assist with equipment installations, machine setups, and plant improvement projects.
- Respond to equipment breakdowns and maintenance requests in a timely manner to minimize production downtime.
- Maintain accurate maintenance records, work orders, inspection reports, and other required documentation.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area and ensure tools and equipment are properly maintained.
- Identify potential equipment issues and communicate recommended repairs or improvements to management.
- Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- 3 or more years of previous mechanical maintenance experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment required.
- Strong mechanical troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to safely use hand tools, power tools, and mechanical equipment.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, diagrams, schematics, technical drawings, manuals, and specifications.
- Working knowledge of mechanical power transmission systems, hydraulics, pneumatics, and vacuum systems.
- Ability to safely perform equipment installation, disassembly, assembly, alignment, and repair.
- Basic welding and fabrication skills preferred.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to workplace safety.
- Ability to work independently as well as effectively with a team.
- Good written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to prioritize multiple maintenance needs in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
- Ability to work overtime, weekends, or different shifts when required by business needs.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience maintaining machinery in a wire, cable, metal, or similar manufacturing environment.
- Experience with preventative maintenance programs.
- Welding, fabrication, machining, or millwright experience.
- Experience troubleshooting hydraulic and pneumatic systems.
- Experience with machine alignment and installation.
- Mechanical or industrial maintenance certification or technical training.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, climb, and work in various positions for extended periods.
- Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull materials, tools, and equipment as required.
- Ability to work around industrial machinery, moving equipment, noise, heat, and other manufacturing conditions while following required safety procedures.
- Ability to wear and properly use required personal protective equipment (PPE).
Work Environment
This position works in an industrial manufacturing environment and requires regular interaction with machinery, tools, equipment, and production operations. The Maintenance Mechanic must consistently follow all safety procedures and use appropriate PPE while performing maintenance activities.
