Description

The Maintenance Mechanic will perform highly responsible maintenance tasks for the buildings of Rowan College at Burlington County. This position is responsible for accomplishing a variety of maintenance tasks that provide students, staff, and fellow employees with an environmentally safe, attractive, comfortable, clean and efficient place in which to work and conduct school activities. Responsibility areas include, but are not limited to maintaining and caring for building maintenance and appearance. This includes carpentry, plumbing, basic electrical, masonry, and HVAC.

This is a Support Staff position as stated in the Support Staff Collective bargaining agreement Grade Level F.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities

  • Maintain and care for the college's buildings by utilizing a variety of hand tools and power tools, machinery, and snow equipment.
  • Must be able to make repairs and maintain building equipment and facilities.
  • Must have the ability to fully utilize the college CMMS, to be accountable for the work day and track labor hours and materials.
  • Must have proven knowledge of troubleshooting problems and maintenance.
  • Working knowledge of specific trades: Carpentry, painting, basic electrical, masonry, plumbing, and HVAC.
  • Maintain and inspect all building equipment to achieve safe operating conditions at all times.
  • Assist other departments when needed.
  • Conduct ongoing program of general PM maintenance, upkeep and repairs.
  • Inspect Alarm systems, Generators, and other equipment as needed.
  • Replace doors, locksets, hardware, etc.
  • Perform masonry repairs.
  • Functions independently or as part of a crew depending on the nature of the task.
  • Reports health and safety hazards to the appropriate personnel.
  • Operate snow removal equipment in a safe manner
  • Report to work when called during bad weather or emergencies.

Non- Essential Functions:

  • Maintains college equipment and supplies.
  • Keeps equipment clean and operational.
  • Monitors vehicles for any issues that may be unsafe to drive or damage and reports them to Maintenance supervisor.
  • Prepares buildings for interior and exterior painting.
  • May provide work direction for lower grade employees.
  • Assist other departments and ensure that areas are clean and restored to original condition after special events, meetings, or games.

The primary and most important overall responsibility of all employees is to provide service in a pleasant, helpful, and effective manner to our students and other members of the College community.

Minimum Qualifications

Education Required:

Completion of high school or trade school education in building maintenance, general construction or skill areas.

Education Preferred (not required):

  • CFC (certified facility certification)
  • CDL (Class A or B)

Experience Required: Experience in excess of (3) three years may be substituted for the education requirement on a nine month for nine-month basis.

Skills/Abilities /Knowledge /Other Requirements

  • Must have a valid NJ Driver's License.
  • Must be qualified in the use of all hand and power tools.

Additional Information

INSTITUTIONAL EFFECTIVENESS:

Collaborates with department members and/or the Compliance, Assessment and Research team to support planning, assessment, data collection and reporting for continuous improvement of the college.
