JOB SUMMARY: The Maintenance Technician is responsible for providing maintenance support for the plant, specializing in mechanical capability. This is a highly skilled hourly position requiring a thorough understanding of safe work practices, troubleshooting, and maintenance of manufacturing equipment. This job creates value by completing preventive and corrective maintenance, leading to increased uptime and reliability.

PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Troubleshoot equipment such as compressors, turbines, pumps, gearboxes, rotating equipment, pneumatic and hydraulic systems, valves, and other mechanical devices.
  • Ability to complete installation, alignment, dismantling, and repair of industrial machinery and mechanical equipment in a manner that improves asset and plant reliability.
  • Perform periodic maintenance routines to identify and correct mechanical defects to extend asset life.
  • Maintaining operations equipment to achieve optimal performance levels.
  • Safely perform and document maintenance and repair of mechanical equipment and systems
  • Mechanical knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, use, repair, and maintenance.
  • Troubleshooting and field analysis capability to provide solutions quickly and accurately, even in stressful situations.
  • Completion of equipment repairs within OEM specifications by following mechanical best practices to ensure reliable equipment.
  • Utilize precision alignment practices on rotating equipment and check connected piping for pipe strain.
  • Complete troubleshooting and repair update information for files, logs, and drawings for work on designated mechanical equipment.
  • Perform routine maintenance on mechanical devices using hand and power tools, electrical and electronic measuring and test devices, diagnostic equipment, vendor literature, technical manuals, blueprints, and other diagrams.
  • Hands-on approach with strong work ethic.
  • Adhering to all plant health, safety, and environmental guidelines, policies, and procedures.
  • High school or GED equivalent and one or more of the following minimum requirements,
  • 2-year associate degree in industrial maintenance technology.
  • Three (3) years of industrial, military, or manufacturing maintenance experience

THINGS THAT WILL PUT YOU AHEAD:

  • Proficiency in removing and installing equipment using proper rigging.
  • Ability to lead mechanical crews for compressor or major pump repairs.
  • Mechanical job planning and outage/Turnaround oversight and experience.
  • Vibration monitoring and/or analysis experience.
  • Effective communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Strong data analysis skills.
  • Ability to run a manual lathe or mill.
  • Previous laser alignment experience on large compressors, fans, and/or turbines.
  • Previous knowledge, application, and/or management of lubrication best practices in an industrial setting.
  • Previous experience in a mechanical, welding, automotive, and/or machinist maintenance capacity.
  • 10+ years of experience working in chemical or refinery environments.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Walking; standing; sitting; reaching; bending; stooping; squatting; crawling; climbing stairs, ladders and equipment up to 100 feet in height; balancing; lifting, carrying and/or moving up to 50 pounds, occasionally while climbing and balancing; pushing and pulling up to and in excess of 50 pounds, with assistance from others; grasping and pulling, pushing, turning and working with hands, occasionally in close areas and while bending, stooping or squatting; good eye and hand coordination; active range of motion of arms, neck and trunk
  • May be required to work around rotating and energized equipment
  • Willingness to work in confined spaces or from elevated heights
  • Willingness to work around dust, hazardous chemicals, high pressure, high temperature, and loud noises
  • Willingness to work outside in extreme weather conditions
  • Ability to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) in designated areas (FR uniform, hard hat, safety glasses, gloves, steel-toed boots, and hearing protection)
  • Ability to remain calm under stress
  • Overtime and availability to work non-standard hours are required, including on call/call outs

This facility is required to comply with security standards under the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) CFATS regulation 6 CFR Part 27.
