    The Parking Management department at West Virginia University is currently accepting applications for a Maintenance Worker II.

    About the Opportunity

    The incumbent is primarily responsible for a wide variety of tasks that involve installation, repair, operation and maintenance of parking pay stations and gates. Responsible for funds collection activities in the field and assisting in the permit office. Perform maintenance and operations for parking structures and surface parking spaces, lots and related facilities on the Morgantown main campus.

    What You'll Do

    • Assist with the operation and maintenance of parking equipment and operate specialized computer maintenance equipment, program equipment as needed. Performs duties associated campus wide gate operations and ST pay stations which may include on call duties to get equipment functioning properly. Duties include parking data base research and programming, electrical and mechanical repairs to equipment. Use personal computer to program this equipment when necessary in order to keep the short-term lots and gates operational. Troubleshoot and repair electronic dollar bill dispenser. Performs duties associated with fee collections of all parking pay stations, which involves handling large sums of cash. Must account for their assigned funds and perform other cash handing activities. Assist other parking staff on the daily operations of parking equipment.

    • Receive and respond to Campus Police emergency calls in the event of a gate malfunctions either remotely or field service call. Assists Campus Police Officers as requested in the completion of enforcement activities to include towing and unlock vehicles. Aids motorists and citizens in distress by summoning help for inoperable vehicles and keys locked in vehicles. Enforces parking rules and regulations, identifies and provides recommendations to reduce parking complaints, concerns, questions, and unique situation from staff, faculty, students, and the general public regarding policies and procedures of the Parking Management unit. Performs duties as assigned

    Pay Grade: 11

    Hours: Monday thru Friday 6a - 2 pm

    • Requires a high school diploma or GED and up to 18 months of education or training beyond high school OR any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities

    • A minimum of two (2) years experience in the following:

    • Electronic and equipment repair, experience in the maintenance & repair of mechanical, electronic and/or electrical systems/equipment and accessories

    • Computer

    • Cash Handling

    • Any equivalent combination of related education and/or experience will be considered

    • All qualifications must be met by the time of employment

    Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

    • Must be able to work unsupervised and make decisions on demand

    • Ability to assign job tasks professionally.

    • Ability to operate a computer

    • Ability to program and repair computerized equipment, short term pay station and parking gates

    • Ability to generate documentation if required for cash handling internal audit.

    • Ability to use math skills to layout and determine maximum utilization of parking areas.

    • Ability to assign tasks required for maintenance operations.

    • Ability to perform routine vehicle maintenance and services, including jump starts, vehicle unlocks, etc.

    • Ability to operate hand tools and parking machinery.

    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

    • Proven skill in interacting with the public. Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain cooperative working

    • Organization and time management skills required to manage multiple projects, reports, requests, and workload.

    • Ability to learn and to apply policies, procedures and guidelines of the Parking operation

    • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to maintain a professional demeanor while interacting with customers either in person or over the telephone.

    • Must have knowledge of hazardous chemical regulation

    Physical Ability

    • Must be able to perform physical duties related to parking lot maintenance
    • Must be able to lift 50 lbs.
    • Must be able to erect signs as needed
