    Description

    The Community Group (TCG) is a private non-profit organization, based in Lawrence, MA whose mission is to create, manage, and nurture high-quality programs focused on education and related services that support families. TCG was founded in 1970 as the Community Day Care Center of Lawrence, and has grown to manage a successful charter public school (Community Day Charter Public School), early education and care programs, out-of-school time programming, and workforce development initiatives.

    Job Summary:

    The Maintenance Worker serves as a member of the Facilities Team at The Community Group/Community Day Charter Public School. The ideal candidate is a skilled handy person/tradesperson, capable of completing projects including light electrical work, plumbing, painting, and carpentry, waxing and stripping of floors. This is a full-time position, reporting to the Maintenance Director.

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities

    Facility Maintenance

    • Perform daily inspections to ensure the safety, cleanliness, and overall condition of the property, both inside and outside.

    • Respond to routine maintenance requests and perform general building repairs.

    • Troubleshoot heating and plumbing issues and promptly notify the Maintenance Director of any concerns requiring additional attention.

    • Assist with moving furniture, equipment, and other heavy items as needed.

    • Maintain and care for all maintenance tools and equipment, ensuring they are used safely and stored properly.

    Grounds and Custodial Duties

    • Clean and inspect playgrounds and playground equipment daily to ensure a safe environment.

    • Remove trash from the property on a daily basis during the school year.

    • Maintain clean, safe, and orderly indoor and outdoor spaces.

    Safety and Emergency Response

    • Respond to alarm calls at any time, year-round, and meet with police, fire department, or other emergency personnel as required.

    • Inspect exit signs and emergency backup lighting regularly and replace bulbs or fixtures when needed.

    • Assist the Fire Department and the Maintenance Director during quarterly fire inspections and facility walkthroughs.

    • Help ensure the property complies with all applicable safety standards and regulations.

    Communication and Teamwork

    • Maintain clear and timely communication with the Maintenance Director regarding maintenance issues, repairs, and facility needs.

    • Work collaboratively with other team members to ensure efficient operation of the facility.

    Schedule Requirements

    • Must be available to work occasional evenings, weekends, and respond to emergency call-outs as needed.

    • Must be able to lift and move heavy furniture, equipment, and supplies safely.
