About the Center for Disaster Philanthropy

CDP began in 2010 with the goal of pioneering the practice of strategic disaster philanthropy. Since then, it has grown in its ambition, envisioning a world where the impact of disasters is minimized through thoughtful, equitable and responsive recovery for all. CDP has a $40 million budget and a team of more than 40 staff members working remotely across the U.S.

CDP is a trusted partner, expert, and authoritative resource, helping hundreds of individuals, foundations, and corporations boost the impact of philanthropic giving in response to disasters and humanitarian crises by supporting equitable recovery and addressing the root causes of vulnerabilities worldwide.

In 2025, CDP awarded approximately $33 million through 158 grants to grantee partners worldwide, demonstrated thought leadership through webinars, blog posts, featured speaking engagements and other events, and served 14+ philanthropic partners through consulting efforts.

As an organization grounded in racial and intersectional equity, our team members are deeply committed to strengthening communities that are most vulnerable to disasters due to systemic inequities. We are guided by our values of integrity, boldness and innovation, humility, and empathy in all we do in pursuit of our mission.

Bottom line: We aspire to walk the talk of anti-racism and to treat each other and our partners in ways that inspire trust, creativity, learning and care.

Be a part of our fast-growing team that offers countless ways to help communities thrive. Join us!

Responsibilities & Duties

In addition to CDP’s nonprofit work, advisory services is our fee-based consulting practice. We work with funders to build their capacity to give better during disasters and beyond. Our work includes curriculum and learning, planning and general advisory.

This position works on the advisory services team and leads CDP Partner Connect, our disaster intelligence service for funders. Most of the work is tied to furthering the Partner Connect line by running its production cycle and leading the launch of the updated product. This role supports additional advisory services projects, with room to lead new work, and provides opportunities to support organizational initiatives and represent CDP externally. The manager reports to the director of advisory services and works closely with CDP's program, grants and resource development teams.

As a fully remote workforce, CDP prioritizes employee engagement and relationship building in service of a collaborative culture rooted in equity. To this end, travel is anticipated throughout the year in different regions of the U.S. This role will be expected to attend client meetings on-site periodically, 2-3 conferences per year and 2-3 staff retreats per year. As a disaster-related position, the manager of advisory services may also have to work remotely in coordination with others on occasional evenings and weekends when a major disaster strikes.

What success looks like in the first year:

  • Launch the updated Partner Connect portal and move current clients onto it without a break in service.
  • Renew current Partner Connect clients through the transition.
  • Bring new clients onto Partner Connect after launch.
  • Scope and launch a client-facing Partner Connect portal, shaped by what clients use and need.

Primary responsibilities include:

Partner Connect (~ 70%)

  • Lead Partner Connect as a product by designing and implementing its roadmap, delivery model, templates and timelines.
  • Finish the Partner Connect enhancement work and lead its launch.
  • Lead Partner Connect client relationships. Run regular client briefings on active disasters and recovery. Bring in other CDP teams, providing clients with the full range of our expertise in one place.
  • Tell the Partner Connect story. Show clients and prospects what value is added by expert judgment that a search engine or AI tool cannot.
  • Run the production cycle. Monitor disasters, gather on-the-ground information from partners and prepare vetted nonprofit recommendations. Deliver quarterly impact reports.
  • Move fast when a disaster strikes. Turn what we learn into clear guidance for clients.
  • Apply the verification standard to every client deliverable.
  • Coordinate and manage production with CDP's grants, education, research and program teams.
  • Build the tools and processes that let Partner Connect scale without losing the CDP touch.
  • Grow the client base. Support outreach, proposals, scopes of work, pricing and renewals.
  • Track engagement and document the value each client receives.

 Broader Advisory Services (~ 20%)

  • Support existing and new advisory services projects, including curriculum, learning and planning engagements.
  • Contribute and lead to client-facing webinars, business development meetings and one-off expert consultations.
  • Develop and lead new advisory services offerings in coordination with the advisory services team.

Organizational collaboration (~ 10%)

  • Connect clients with CDP's grants, education and convening offerings.
  • Support internal organizational initiatives and strategy development, such as serving on committees, panels and task forces at CDP as appropriate and as available.
  • Represent CDP in external events as needed, including webinars, conferences and collaboratives, among others.
  • Remain knowledgeable about the priorities of the organization, the strategy & innovation team, the strategic plan and the field of disaster philanthropy.
  • Collaborate effectively with colleagues across the organization.
  • Perform other duties and job-related tasks as assigned.
This position reports to the Advisory Services Director but works in service of the whole organization.

Required qualifications and skills:

  • At least 5-7 years in consulting, client services, philanthropy, non-profit disaster management or a related field.
  • Experience managing client relationships and complex projects in tight timelines.
  • Experience advising corporate or private foundations, donor-advised fund sponsors or corporate giving programs.
  • Experience owning a product, service line or program, including its quality and its revenue.
  • Representation in rooms with senior leaders at foundations and corporations, and ability to lead a client meeting with one or many stakeholders alone or in collaboration with other team members or leadership.
  • Excellent writing and experience producing client-ready material that needs little editing.
  • Sound judgment in fast-moving, ambiguous situations.
  • Experience building working relationships across teams to support client deliverables.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft 365 and high level of comfort building or applying new technology in your day-to-day work.

Preferred qualifications and skills:

  • Experience building repeatable service processes and building or managing a digital tool, such as a client portal, with vendors, automation or low-code platforms.
  • Familiarity with nonprofit due diligence or grantmaking.
  • Experience writing proposals or growing a book of new clients.
  • Experience with CRM systems.
  • Supervisory experience leading teams, developing talent and fostering a collaborative and high-performing work environment.

Personal characteristics:

  • Commitment to the values intrinsic to CDP’s mission and strategy.
  • Strategic and systems-oriented thinker.
  • Adaptable and comfortable leading through ambiguity.
  • Sense of humor.
  • Collaborative leader who builds trust and influence. Curious and committed to continuous learning.
