At Houston Methodist, the Manager Financial Accounting position is responsible for the coordination and preparation of the monthly consolidated financial statements for Houston Methodist (HM) and its corporations. This position is responsible for the timely and accurate review of journal entries, general ledger analysis, analytical review of account balances, maintenance of the fixed asset subsidiary system, financial statement trends and budget variance analysis. Coordinates and consolidates annual budget as assigned. May also perform general review and filing of tax returns and medicare cost reports. Also responsible for internal and external reporting. Interacts regularly across the system with operational department management, entity executives and external parties, including financial auditors, Medicare auditors, Internal Revenue Service (IRS) auditors, Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and Texas Division of Emergency Management (TDEM) personnel.
The manager position responsibilities include managing the daily work activities of the work unit/department staff, ensuring quality, productivity, functional excellence and efficiency while assisting management in accomplishing strategic and operational objectives. In addition, this position provides guidance to staff and is responsible for staffing, budget compliance, contributing to staffing decisions such as hiring and terminating employment, coaching and counseling employees on work related performance, and assisting in the development and implementation of policies and procedures to ensure a safe and effective work environment. This position also implements training, monitoring and operations initiatives that secure compliance with ethical and legal business practices and accreditation/regulatory/ government regulations.
