Amazon Robotics is seeking a talented and motivated Mechatronics Engineering Manager to lead a multidisciplinary team of Mechatronics Engineers and Mechanical Engineers dedicated to designing, developing, and testing actuation solutions and next-generation robotic systems.

In this role, you will own the full lifecycle of actuation and robotic hardware development-guiding your team as they create detailed design specifications and models, conduct simulations, and rigorously test and validate systems from concept through production readiness and scaled deployment.

You will serve as a technical people leader, setting the standard for engineering excellence while fostering collaboration and high performance across mechanical and mechatronics disciplines. A critical part of your responsibility will be partnering closely with controls, electrical, and software engineering teams to deliver fully integrated actuation and robotic solutions that meet the demands of Amazon"s robotics platforms operating at unprecedented scale across hundreds of fulfillment sites worldwide.

The ideal candidate brings hands-on experience managing a diverse team focused on rotary actuation hardware design, electromechanical system integration, and robotic platform development, combined with practical knowledge of high-volume manufacturing methods and design-for manufacturability principles. You communicate clearly and persuasively, thrive on solving complex technical problems, and collaborate naturally across organizational boundaries.

Above all, you are a role model-someone who leads by example, raises the bar for those around you, and is energized by the challenge of turning innovative ideas into reliable, scalable hardware.

Key job responsibilities

Team Leadership & People Development

  • Recruiting, developing, and retaining great people across mechanical and mechatronics engineering disciplines; continually raising the bar
  • Managing and mentoring a team of Mechatronics and Mechanical Engineers, fostering cradle-to-grave ownership and engineering rigor
  • Developing and reporting performance metrics for the engineering team to peers and executives
  • Cultivating role model behaviors of thorough engineering analysis and cross-functional collaboration

Product Delivery & Program Management

  • Owning the delivery of mechanical and mechatronic products to market on time, in budget, and at targeted performance
  • Scoping, managing, and delivering multiple technical projects in parallel from concept to production
  • Guiding interdisciplinary teams to execute product designs including specification, design, prototyping, validation, and testing
  • Interfacing with engineering managers, product management, and program management to drive new product development programs from concept to production

Technical Oversight

  • Overseeing the design and integration of holistic electromechanical hardware solutions for complex, ambiguous problems with evolving requirements
  • Directing the creation of detailed design specifications, 3D models, and schematics for mechatronic and robotic systems
  • Ensuring development and debugging of embedded systems, sensors, and automation controllers for reliable system performance
  • Overseeing simulation, evaluation, testing, and validation of robotic and electromechanical systems against performance and safety standards
  • Driving root cause analysis on system failures and implementing corrective actions to improve reliability and uptime
  • Ensuring functional specifications, design verification plans, and test procedures are written to maintain engineering rigor

Cross-Functional Collaboration & Operations

  • Maintaining a high level of communication with cross-functional teams and partners
  • Collaborating with Operations, Manufacturing, Supply Chain, and Quality organizations to ensure smooth product launch and sustaining
  • Managing vendor relationships, component procurement, and supply chain integration to support production timelines
  • Evaluating and identifying improvements to overall design processes
  • Driving continuous improvement and design for manufacturability across high-volume production environments

Amazon.com Inc

At Amazon, we don’t wait for the next big idea to present itself. We envision the shape of impossible things and then we boldly make them reality. So far, this mindset has helped us achieve some incredible things. Let’s build new systems, challenge the status quo, and design the world we want to live in. We believe the work you do here will be the best work of your life.

Wherever you are in your career exploration, Amazon likely has an opportunity for you. Our research scientists and engineers shape the future of natural language understanding with Alexa. Fulfillment center associates around the globe send customer orders from our warehouses to doorsteps. Product managers set feature requirements, strategy, and marketing messages for brand new customer experiences. And as we grow, we’ll add jobs that haven’t been invented yet.

It’s Always Day 1
At Amazon, it’s always “Day 1.” Now, what does this mean and why does it matter? It means that our approach remains the same as it was on Amazon’s very first day – to make smart, fast decisions, stay nimble, invent, and stay focused on delighting our customers. In our 2016 shareholder letter, Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos shared his thoughts on how to keep up a Day 1 company mindset. “Staying in Day 1 requires you to experiment patiently, accept failures, plant seeds, protect saplings, and double down when you see customer delight,” he wrote. “A customer-obsessed culture best creates the conditions where all of that can happen.” You can read the full letter here

Our Leadership Principles
Our Leadership Principles help us keep a Day 1 mentality. They aren’t just a pretty inspirational wall hanging. Amazonians use them, every day, whether they’re discussing ideas for new projects, deciding on the best solution for a customer’s problem, or interviewing candidates.
