The Facilities & Safety Manager will spend their time on the train, on the platform, and throughout the property actively identifying and correcting hazards or securing such issues, supporting safe guest movement, monitoring operational practices of excursion staff, and ensuring employees are prepared to and safely perform their responsibilities.
In addition to safety and facility responsibilities, this position provides operational support when needed, including guest services, special events, car hosting, concessions fulfillment, train servicing tasks that support guest readiness, and identification and correction of light railcar interior and facilities maintenance needs.
- Serve as the primary daily safety presence during train operations and special events.
- Monitor safe operations on the train, platforms, boarding areas, and throughout the property.
- Oversee and assist with the safe boarding and deboarding of guests, along with other car hosts.
- Support safe operation and required inspections of wheelchair lifts and accessibility equipment.
- Conduct daily safety briefings with excursion employees.
- Reinforce company safety procedures, policies, and expectations through daily interaction and observation.
- Identify unsafe conditions on train consist or on facility grounds, behaviors, and potential hazards and take appropriate action to correct them or protect others from such hazards.
- Document and communicate safety concerns, incidents, near misses, and corrective actions as required.
- Maintain and update SafeTracks records and information.
- Promote a culture where employees feel comfortable identifying hazards and speaking up about safety concerns.
- Assist management in investigating incidents and determining appropriate corrective actions.
Guest Safety & Experience
- Maintain a visible and approachable presence around guests and employees.
- Monitor guest movement and behavior in boarding areas, platforms, train cars, and other operational areas.
- Assist guests with boarding, deboarding, accessibility needs, and general questions.
- Help ensure that safety procedures are followed without compromising the quality of the guest experience.
- Provide support during VIP experiences, special events, and other high-volume operating days.
- Ride every passenger train and be onboard Safety
- Step into car host or guest-service responsibilities when operationally necessary.
- Support concessions fulfillment and other guest-service functions when needed.
Daily Railroad & Operational Support
The Facilities & Safety Manager is expected to be a hands-on member of the operating team and assist with daily railroad needs, including:
- Assisting with daily train preparation and operational readiness.
- Adding water to the train as needed.
- Supporting train servicing tasks such as adding water or assisting with established sewage dump/service procedures, when trained and directed.
- Washing or assisting with washing the exterior of the train when needed as a light operational support task, consistent with established procedures.
- Monitoring the condition of passenger cars, platforms, equipment, and other areas accessible to guests.
- Owning and handling minor facilities maintenance needs and safety concerns.
- Owning and handling minor maintenance and repairs to excursion consist interiors to include but not limited to interior paint, blinds, seating, carpet, bathrooms, changing our air filters on A/C units, doors, vestibules, etc, to include assisting Excursion Mechanical Manager with coordination of contractors when necessary.
- Reporting potential major repair issues and promptly communicating them to the appropriate operations personnel including damaged equipment, accessibility-equipment concerns, or other conditions requiring attention by the appropriate personnel.
- Assisting with special events and operational projects as assigned.
- This role is focused on safety oversight, guest-facing operational support, and light facilities maintenance and it’s coordination. It does not include performing heavy equipment maintenance, locomotive or railcar mechanical repairs, or other specialized mechanical maintenance work.
