Job Summary:

Manages the Sterile Processing Department which provides services for Perioperative Services as well as the entire facility. Is responsible for the day-to-day management of the supply procurement, inventory management and patient billing activities for the Perioperative arena. Assures adequate supplies are on hand at all times, as well as other related functions. Supervises, assigns and evaluates the activities of Operating Room personnel performing material control and patient billing functions. Supervises and directs the activities of various levels of assigned personnel using both professional and supervisory discretion and independent judgment.

Job Requirements:

Education and Work Experience:

  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent combination of education/related experience: Required
  • Master''s Degree: Preferred
  • Five years'' technical experience: Preferred
  • One year''s leadership experience: Preferred

Licenses/Certifications:

  • Sterile Processing Technician certification: Required

Essential Functions:

  • Coordinates preparation of budgetary recommendations of assigned hospital programs and activities. Develops and implements policies, procedures and maintains quality assurance initiatives as required by external review agencies to ensure that established standards are maintained.
  • Monitors and coordinates all activities related to the production and distribution of case carts. Plans, directs and coordinates activities involved in the acquisition, decontamination, storage, assembly, cleaning and sterilization of medical surgical and related supplies, materials, and equipment utilized in the care and treatment of patients and the operation of Sterile Processing.
  • Manages various personnel actions including, but not limited to hiring, performance appraisals, promotions, transfers and vacation schedules.
  • Interacts regularly with Operating Room staff, advising physicians, nurses and other personnel regarding products, supplies, equipment, services, instrumentation and other issues necessary to perform designated patient care medical and surgical procedures.
  • Establishes and maintains on-going in-service education program in the department.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
