We are seeking an experienced Manufacturing Engineer II (Automated Fiber Placement) to support the development, optimization, and execution of automated composite layup processes for advanced aerospace structures. This position will focus on AFP programming, process improvement, production support, and manufacturing optimization of carbon fiber composite components.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain AFP ply programs using AFP programming and simulation software.
• Convert engineering models, ply books, and lamination schedules into executable AFP programs.
• Support machine setup, calibration, and laser alignment activities.
• Optimize fiber placement paths to reduce defects, improve quality, and increase machine efficiency.
• Validate AFP programs through simulation and production trials.
• Partner with design engineering teams to provide Design for Manufacturability (DFM) recommendations.
• Investigate and resolve manufacturing and machine-related issues.
• Participate in tooling reviews to ensure AFP compatibility.
• Drive process improvements, waste reduction, and automation initiatives.
• Develop preventive maintenance documentation and support reliability improvements.
• Create and maintain standard operating procedures and process documentation.
• Support audits, root cause investigations, and corrective actions.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related Engineering field.
• 5+ years of experience in carbon fiber composite aerospace manufacturing.
• Hands-on experience with Automated Fiber Placement (AFP).
• Experience with AFP programming and simulation tools.
• Strong understanding of composite layup processes, fiber orientation, and lamination schedules.
• Proficiency with CAD software.
• Experience improving manufacturing efficiency and reducing waste.
• Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving abilities.
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
• Ability to thrive in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in aerospace manufacturing environments.
• Experience with capital equipment implementation.
• Master's degree in Engineering or related discipline.
• Lean Manufacturing or Six Sigma Black Belt certification.
• Experience supporting tooling design and manufacturing process optimization.
