We are seeking a motivated

Manufacturing Intern to join our team for the summer.

Job Purpose

This role will focus on supporting automation initiatives within a plastic injection molding environment. The intern will work closely with engineering, maintenance, and production teams to improve efficiency, reliability, and quality across molding and secondary operations.

This is a hands-on opportunity to gain real-world experience with robotics, automation systems, and process improvement in a fast-paced manufacturing environment. 

Nature of Duties/Responsibilities

• Assist in the design, development, and implementation of automation systems for injection molding and secondary operations

• Troubleshoot and optimize robotic systems (3-, 4-, and 6-axis robots), automated cells, and manual processes 

• Participate in continuous improvement initiatives focused on cycle time reduction, scrap reduction, and uptime improvement

• Help develop and update work instructions, process documentation, and standard operating procedures

• Collect and analyze production data to identify trends and improvement opportunities

• Assist with equipment validation, testing, and runoffs for new or modified automation systems

• Collaborate with cross-functional teams including production, quality, and maintenance

• Support preventative maintenance and reliability improvements for automation equipment

Education and Experience

• Currently pursuing a degree in Manufacturing Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, Industrial Engineering, or a related field

• Basic understanding of manufacturing processes; exposure to plastic injection molding is a plus

• Interest in automation, robotics, and hands-on problem solving

• Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting mindset

• Familiarity with CAD software (SolidWorks, AutoCAD, or similar) 

• Basic knowledge of PLCs or robot programming is a plus but not required

• Strong communication and teamwork skills

• Ability to work in a fast-paced, hands-on manufacturing environment
