Job Description:
We are seeking a hands-on Manufacturing/Process Engineer to support CNC machining operations in a high-volume manufacturing environment. This position is ideal for an engineer who enjoys being on the plant floor, solving problems in real time, and working directly with production, maintenance, quality, and engineering teams.
You will support machining operations, including cylinder head machining, troubleshoot equipment and process issues, analyze quality and production data, and implement improvements that increase equipment efficiency, reduce scrap and downtime, and improve overall manufacturing performance.
This is an excellent opportunity to gain extensive plant-floor manufacturing experience while developing your expertise in CNC machining, process engineering, continuous improvement, and automated manufacturing systems. The manager's goal is also to potentially convert the contractor to a full-time employee at the end of the assignment.
What You'll Do- Support daily production and CNC machining activities on the manufacturing floor.
- Troubleshoot CNC machining, equipment, quality, and process issues.
- Investigate machine faults and production downtime to identify root causes and implement corrective actions.
- Review measurement and production reports and make or recommend process and machine adjustments.
- Develop and improve manufacturing processes to increase quality, efficiency, and throughput.
- Partner closely with maintenance technicians, operators, supervisors, quality teams, and other engineers.
- Drive continuous improvement efforts focused on OEE, scrap reduction, cycle time, machine efficiency, cost, and downtime.
- Develop and maintain PFMEAs, control plans, cause-and-effect analyses, and other manufacturing documentation.
- Support measurement and process capability activities, including GR&R, MSA, Cp/Cpk, and process stability studies.
- Support company objectives related to Safety, Quality, Delivery, Cost, and People (SQDCP).
- Provide clear shift handoffs and end-of-shift reporting to document production issues, resolutions, and required follow-up.
- Help establish and maintain standardized manufacturing methods and best practices.
What We're Looking ForRequired Qualifications- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Engineering Technology, or a related field.
- At least 1–3 years of relevant manufacturing, process, or machining engineering experience, with 2–4 years preferred.
- Hands-on experience working with CNC machining processes.
- Proficiency with CNC programming.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, dimensions, tolerances, and GD&T.
- Strong understanding of manufacturing processes and equipment.
- Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot manufacturing or machining problems on the shop floor.
- Understanding of PFMEA, Bills of Materials, and manufacturing quality standards.
- Exposure to Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, process development, or continuous improvement.
- Strong communication and problem-solving skills with the ability to work effectively with production employees, maintenance personnel, supervisors, and engineers.
- Proficiency with Microsoft 365 applications, including Excel and PowerPoint.
Preferred Qualifications- Experience in automotive, powertrain, engine-component, or other high-volume machining environments.
- Experience with CNCs, robotic machining, automated manufacturing equipment, cold forming, or stamping.
- Working knowledge of:
- PFMEA/FMEA
- Control Plans
- Statistical Process Control (SPC)
- Gauge R&R
- Measurement Systems Analysis (MSA)
- Cp/Cpk
- Design of Experiments (DOE)
- OEE
- Experience reducing manufacturing scrap, downtime, cycle time, or production costs.
- Experience with Lean and continuous improvement methodologies.
- AutoCAD LT experience.
- Familiarity with Maximo or Prisma is a plus.
- Master's degree in a related engineering field is a plus.
What Makes You a Strong Fit?You'll stand out if you're the type of engineer who sees a CNC machine stop producing good parts and wants to get on the floor, investigate why it happened, fix the underlying problem, and prevent it from happening again.
The strongest candidates will combine:
CNC Machining + CNC Programming + Blueprint/GD&T + Troubleshooting + Process Improvement
rather than having a purely design-based or theoretical engineering background.
Why Consider This Opportunity? You'll gain extensive hands-on experience supporting critical machining operations in a fast-paced manufacturing plant, with opportunities to strengthen your experience in CNC machining, automation, quality engineering, Lean manufacturing, and continuous improvement. The role provides direct exposure to production challenges where you'll be able to see the impact of your engineering decisions firsthand.
The team also offers significant opportunities to learn and grow, and the hiring manager has indicated a goal of potentially converting the successful contractor to a full-time employee following the contract.
Benefits: 80 hours paid time off, and medical insurance contributions, dental vision and our 401k retirement savings plan.
