Marine Electrician

Marine Electricians are responsible for installing and maintaining electrical systems in accordance with blueprints, technical specifications, customer requirements, and applicable safety standards. Candidates should be comfortable working in shipyard and marine environments and be able to safely perform electrical work in confined spaces and other challenging work conditions.

Job Responsibilities

• Install, maintain, troubleshoot, test, and repair electrical systems aboard ships and marine vessels.
• Install electrical wiring, cables, conduit, cable trays, fixtures, panels, switches, outlets, and other electrical components.
• Read and interpret electrical blueprints, schematics, wiring diagrams, technical drawings, and work instructions.
• Perform electrical installations in accordance with engineering specifications and shipyard requirements.
• Pull, route, terminate, label, and secure electrical cables and wiring.
• Install and connect electrical equipment, control panels, junction boxes, motors, generators, lighting systems, and related components.
• Perform electrical testing and troubleshooting using appropriate meters and test equipment.
• Identify electrical problems and determine the appropriate method of repair.
• Perform continuity, voltage, resistance, insulation, and other required electrical tests.
• Make electrical connections and terminations according to specifications.
• Inspect completed electrical installations to ensure proper workmanship and compliance with requirements.
• Assist with electrical system commissioning and testing as required.
• Maintain accurate records of work performed and testing completed.
• Safely use hand tools, power tools, electrical testing equipment, and other job-related equipment.
• Follow all company, shipyard, and OSHA safety requirements.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area.
• Coordinate with supervisors, engineers, electricians, pipefitters, mechanics, and other trades to complete assigned work.
• Report defective equipment, unsafe conditions, and electrical issues to supervision.
• Perform other duties related to marine electrical installation and maintenance as assigned.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 2 years of marine or industrial electrical experience preferred.
• Marine/shipyard electrical experience strongly preferred.
• Experience installing and troubleshooting electrical systems.
• Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, blueprints, and wiring diagrams.
• Knowledge of electrical systems, wiring methods, cable routing, and electrical components.
• Experience with cable pulling, termination, splicing, and labeling.
• Ability to use electrical testing equipment such as multimeters, meggers, and other diagnostic tools.
• Knowledge of electrical safety procedures and safe work practices.
• Ability to identify electrical problems and perform appropriate troubleshooting.
• Ability to work with hand tools and power tools.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship.
• Excellent attendance, reliability, and work ethic.
• Must be able to follow instructions and work safely in a shipyard environment.
• Experience working from engineering drawings and technical specifications preferred.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to stand and walk for extended periods throughout the workday.
• Ability to climb ladders, stairs, and scaffolding.
• Ability to work in confined spaces and other restricted areas aboard vessels.
• Ability to bend, kneel, crouch, crawl, reach, and work in awkward positions.
• Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull materials, tools, and equipment.
• Ability to work at heights and in elevated work areas when required.
• Ability to work in varying temperatures and marine/shipyard environments.
• Must be able to wear required PPE, including safety glasses, hard hat, hearing protection, gloves, steel-toe boots, fall protection, and other required protective equipment.
• Ability to safely perform electrical work while maintaining awareness of surrounding personnel and equipment.

Work Schedule & Hours

• Full-time position averaging 40–56 hours per week.
• Overtime may be required based on project and production needs.
• Occasional weekend work may be required.
• Extended hours may be necessary to meet production schedules and customer deadlines.
