You’re Not Just an Employee. You’re an Owner.
At GTC, our Ownership For All model means every eligible full-time hire earns an ownership stake from day one. When you help us win, you share in that success.
A day in this role
Step onto the floor of a large-scale facility built for heavy naval equipment. Overhead cranes hum above expansive bays as you interpret a blueprint and prep your station. You verify parts against the stock list using calipers, gauges, and micrometers, then lay out hole locations and drill and tap with precision. With a hoist, you bring components into alignment, fastening with bolts, screws, dowels, welds, or rivets. You true up surfaces with chisels, scrapers, files, and a powered hand grinder, confirm tolerances on moving parts using dial indicators and a thickness gauge, and hand-test the assembly before moving on.
What success looks like
- Assemblies built to spec and standard shop practices.
- Parts consistently protected and handled safely.
- Meeting and raising work standards over time.
- Relentlessly eliminating wasted effort and material.
- Proactively seeking the next task to keep productivity high.
- Working safely at all times and complying with safety requirements.
Your core responsibilities
- Study assembly blueprints and specifications manuals to plan work.
- Verify part conformance to blueprints and stock lists using calipers, gauges, and micrometers.
- Lay out hole locations; drill and tap as required.
- Align components by hand or with hoists; fasten via bolts, screws, dowels, welds, or rivets using hand tools.
- Remove high spots and finish surfaces with chisels, scrapers, files, and powered hand grinders.
- Check alignment and tolerances of moving parts using dial indicators and thickness gauges.
- Manually test assembled units for proper operation.
Where you’ll work
- Large manufacturing environment purpose-built for heavy naval equipment assembly.
- Overhead cranes rated for multi-ton loads, specialized lifting systems, and wide assembly bays.
- Regular exposure to hydraulic fluids, industrial lubricants, electrical components, and metal fabrication debris.
- High noise from heavy machinery, pneumatic tools, and crane activity.
- Temperature-controlled facility; some heat near large electrical components during testing.
- Work adheres to strict Navy specifications and military standards, including NAVSEA requirements.
- May include handling of classified materials.
Physical realities of the job
- Standing and walking on concrete for 10–12 hour shifts around large equipment.
- Working at height using scaffolding, elevated platforms, and man-lifts.
- Lifting and maneuvering 50–75 lb components; team lifts for heavier subassemblies.
- Extensive climbing, crawling, and operating in tight spaces in and around large generator housings.
- Manual dexterity for electrical connections, precision bolt torquing, and intricate installs.
- Strong balance and spatial awareness when working near heavy suspended loads on elevated platforms.
- Comfort with awkward postures: overhead tasks, tight clearances, and cramped interiors within generator enclosures.
Safety above all
- Demonstrated ability to work safely around heavy machinery and suspended loads exceeding 100,000 pounds.
- Strict adherence to crane safety protocols and lock-out/tag-out procedures for high-voltage electrical systems.
What you bring
- High school diploma or equivalent (required).
- Proven mechanical aptitude.
- Must be a US citizen.
- At least one year of related experience and/or training leveraging entry-level mechanical aptitude.
- Background in heavy mechanical assembly.
How we work together
