Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced Marine Structural Engineer to support ship design and construction projects. The ideal candidate will have experience performing structural analysis, developing engineering calculations, reviewing technical drawings, and ensuring compliance with Classification Society, regulatory, and owner requirements.
This position will support all phases of ship design and construction while working closely with engineering teams, vendors, customers, and shipyard personnel.
Responsibilities
- Perform structural design analysis and engineering calculations.
- Develop ship structural designs, diagrams, and Bills of Material (BOMs).
- Prepare ship specifications and engineering estimates for new projects.
- Review vendor drawings and technical proposals for compliance with project requirements.
- Prepare technical evaluations and provide recommendations.
- Support testing, trials, and engineering investigations, including:
- Vibration surveys
- Noise surveys
- Machinery signature analysis
- Shaft alignment surveys
- Interpret Classification Society rules, US Navy specifications, and industry standards.
- Prepare purchase specifications, test procedures, and engineering documentation.
- Provide technical guidance to engineering and design teams.
- Function as a design checker and mentor to junior engineers.
- Support shipyard operations, ship launches, undockings, sea trials, and vibration trials.
- Communicate effectively with customers, vendors, and internal departments.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or related field.
- Professional Engineer (P.E.) License is a plus.
- Minimum 5 years of experience in marine engineering.
- Minimum 3 years of experience in structural engineering within the marine industry.
- Experience with ship structural design and analysis.
- Knowledge of Classification Society requirements and marine regulations.
- Experience with CAD/CAM software.
- Familiarity with shipboard equipment and systems.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
