We are hiring Fitter/Welders of all skill levels — from developing welders looking to advance their careers to experienced shipyard craftsmen. With hands-on training, mentorship, and welding qualification opportunities available, you'll have the opportunity to strengthen your skills and grow within a skilled fabrication environment.
What You'll Do
- Fit and tack steel components in preparation for final welding
- Perform FCAW production welding on heavy steel assemblies
- Weld structural steel in flat, horizontal, vertical, and overhead positions
- Read and interpret blueprints, weld symbols, and fabrication drawings
- Perform layout, measurements, and fit-up work
- Set up and operate welding equipment safely and efficiently
- Inspect welds to ensure quality and specification compliance
- Remove slag, grind, and finish welds as needed
- Perform basic troubleshooting of welding equipment
- Work safely while maintaining quality production standards
- Collaborate with experienced welders, fitters, and foremen
Welding Qualification Tests
Qualified candidates must be able to pass welding certification tests, including:
- 1" Plate Fillet Weld Tests
- 2G Position
- 3G Position
- 4G Position
- 1" Plate Groove Weld Tests
- 2G Position
- 3G Position
- 4G Position
Candidates with previous shipyard certifications or structural welding qualifications are highly encouraged to apply.
What You Bring
- Welding or fabrication experience preferred (entry-level welders with strong mechanical ability encouraged to apply)
- Ability to learn and perform Flux Core Arc Welding (FCAW)
- Experience with structural steel, heavy fabrication, or industrial manufacturing preferred
- Ability to read a tape measure and perform basic math/fractions
- Blueprint reading and layout experience preferred
- Ability to follow written and verbal instructions
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to safety
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
