Our product is technical. This job isn't.

Aegis builds power supplies for defense and aerospace the hardware inside radar systems, avionics, and military vehicles. Our customers are engineers and program managers at defense primes and government agencies.

Which creates an interesting marketing problem: how do you take something genuinely complicated and make a buyer care about it in thirty seconds?

That's your job here. You do not need an engineering background. You need to be curious enough to keep asking “okay, but what does that actually do?” until you understand it and a good enough writer to then explain it to someone else.

This is marketing in a niche, high-stakes industry. It's hard experience to get as a student, and it reads very differently on a résumé than a consumer-brand or retail internship.

What you'll actually do

You'll get a mix of the work below, weighted toward what you're good at and what you want to learn.

Content & digital

Write and design LinkedIn posts, email campaigns, and product one-pagers. Shoot photo and video on the production floor. Track what performs and tell us why you think it did.

Market & competitive research

Research defense programs, customer accounts, competitors, and industry trends then turn what you find into briefs the sales team can actually use.

Sales support

Build capability presentations and customer-facing decks. Support quotes and proposals with formatting, proofreading, and document assembly. Keep the CRM clean and current. Sit in on customer calls.

Brand & storytelling

Develop case studies, capability sheets, and recruiting content that explains who Aegis is to customers and to the people we want to hire next.

Tools & skills: LinkedIn, Canva or Adobe Creative Suite, PowerPoint, Excel, CRM, photo and video

By the end of the term, you will have a portfolio of published work with your name on it.

What we're looking for

• Enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program in Marketing, Business, Communications, Advertising, Public Relations, Journalism, Graphic Design, Digital Media, or a related field. MBA students are encouraged to apply.
• You write well, and you can tell when something reads badly.
• You're comfortable asking about things you don't understand yet, without embarrassment.
• You're organized, you hit deadlines, and you follow through without being chased.
• You catch details: the typo, the broken link, the wrong logo, the outdated part number.

Helpful but not required: Canva or Adobe Creative Suite, Excel, video editing, social media management, CRM experience, or coursework in market research or analytics.

Coursework, student organizations, club marketing, a newsletter you run, freelance design work, a personal project, all of it counts.

Bring one work sample. A writing sample, a design piece, a campaign from a class, a social account you managed. One page or one link is plenty. We'd rather see something you made than read a description of it.

Work in the mountains

Aegis is based in Murphy, a small town in the Smoky Mountains of western North Carolina. No rush-hour commute, the Nantahala National Forest and Hiwassee Lake close by, and Atlanta, Chattanooga, Knoxville, and Asheville all within about two hours when you want a city weekend.

What you'll leave with

• Published work: content, decks, and materials that went out to real customers, not a training exercise.
• An understanding of how government-adjacent sales cycles work — very different from consumer marketing, and a real differentiator when you interview.
• Exposure to the whole business. You'll work with Engineering, Sales, Quality, and leadership at a company small enough that you'll know everyone's name.
• Direct mentorship and honest feedback on your work.
• A project you own and present to the Aegis team at the end of your term.
