Position Summary

The Math Instructor works with students and CTE teachers to provide specific education and training in mathematics to improve the understanding and performance by the students. The Math Instructor will work with the CTE instructors to identify what math is taught in the technical subject area and to assist the instructor to develop strategies and techniques for delivering the instruction. The Math Instructor will also model effective teaching techniques for the CTE instructors while delivering lessons in the CTE classrooms. Finally, the math instructors will be responsible for assuring that each CTE student has a pre/posttest math assessment and an individual education plan for overcoming deficiencies.

Minimum Qualifications

Education:

Michigan Secondary Teaching Certification with "Highly Qualified" status in designated subject area. Minimum of fifteen credit hours of post graduate work or Master's Degree in curriculum development preferred.

Experience:

Three years of professional occupational experience outside of education in a technical, business or industrial environment. Documented experience working collaboratively on project design, implementation, and collaboration.

Skills/Other:

Demonstrates appropriate teaching strategies for all students. Demonstrates an understanding of adolescent developmental patterns. Demonstrated ability to communicate utilizing all manner of electronic presentation devices and formats. Demonstrates a commitment to GISD mission, purpose, belief statements and learning principles. Demonstrated knowledge of academic infusion processes and strategies into technical applications preferred. Possesses a strong working knowledge of subject matter and current research on learning. Possesses a high level of skill in developing stimulating student assignments and varied student assessment vehicles. Possesses an ability to develop and reinforce a positive self-concept in each student. Exhibits self-control, mature judgment, congeniality, and ethical standards in all working relationships. Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in written communications. Ability to utilize district technology and work to maintain proficiency, as required skill sets change with technology and/or the needs of the district. Ability to assess and determine the appropriate use of a variety of student assessment tools. Demonstrated mental/physical ability and stamina for meeting the essential duties of the position. Demonstrate honesty, integrity, and professionalism at all times. Punctuality and good attendance are requirements for the position. Ability to work a flexible workday, work week, and work year. Ability to exercise good judgment and make decisions in accordance with GISD board policies and established administrative guidelines.

Compensation & Benefits

Pay Range: $46,600 - $90,934 annually, commensurate with experience and qualifications

Work Schedule: 186 days / 7 hours daily

Paid Time Off:

  • Sick and Personal Business paid time, up to 13 days
  • Bereavement Leave
