General Summary of the Position:

Perform a variety of tasks involving physical labor maintaining construction equipment, heavy trucks/trailer, vehicles and other miscellaneous construction equipment owned by Hemphill Construction, Suncoast Infrastructure & MSI.

Essential Functions:

  • Performs a variety of tasks involving strenuous manual labor in construction equipment and heavy truck/trailer maintenance.
  • May be required to operate equipment to determine proper operation and safety functionality.
  • May be required to pressure wash/clean equipment.
  • Operates a variety of hand and power tools.
  • Maintains a clean service truck or service/shop area; pick up all tools and equipment and secure work area each day in order to eliminate potential hazards.
  • Ensures that proper safety and incident reporting procedures are followed. Bring problems to the attention of the Service Manager, Equipment Manager and/or Safety Director.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of proper use of tools, equipment, materials and supplies used in construction equipment & heavy truck/trailer maintenance.
  • Knowledge of applicable safety precautions.
  • Knowledge of welding and use of a cutting torch.
  • Knowledge of hydraulic, electrical and air conditioning systems.
  • Ability to work independently and complete daily activities according to work schedule.
  • Ability to lift heavy objects, walk and stand for long periods of time and perform strenuous physical labor under adverse field conditions.
  • Ability to understand, follow and transmit written and oral instructions.
  • Ability to meet attendance schedule with dependability and consistency.

Required Education, Training and Experience:

  • High school diploma or equivalent (GED) required.
  • Valid appropriate state driver’s license (general operator license); must be willing to obtain Class A CDL.
  • Willingness and ability to perform manual work following verbal and written instructions.

Work Environment:

  • Regularly works near moving mechanical parts and in outside conditions that include inclement weather, heat and humidity, and exposure to dust and asphalt.
  • May be required to work inside our maintenance shop when necessary.
  • Must be able to lift, push, pull or carry objects, use abdominal and lower back muscles to provide support over time without fatigue and to effectively jump, sprint or throw an object.
  • Requires good manual dexterity (hand, hand with arm, two hands) and multi-limb coordination.
  • Noise level is generally loud.
  • Must be able to quickly move arms and legs.
  • Excellent stamina is required. May be required to work alone.
  • Some overnight travel will be required.
  • Will be required to work some weekends for “on call” duty.
