- Assist with service worker duties, including vehicle servicing and facility
support tasks.
- Respond to road calls and assist with disabled vehicles, including vehicle
change-outs when necessary.
- Conduct road testing of vehicles under authorized supervision to verify
repairs or operational readiness.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work environment, including proper
care and use of tools and equipment.
- Lift, carry, push, and/or move materials, parts, and equipment weighing up to
50 pounds or more.
- Work varying schedules as required to meet operational demands, including
early mornings, evenings, split shifts, and Saturdays.

1The Mechanic Helper is under the supervision of the Transit Maintenance Supervisor
and/or designated mechanic. This position assists Transit Mechanics with the
inspection, maintenance, repair, and servicing of transit vehicles and related
equipment. The Mechanic Helper also performs general operational and service
duties to support the efficient and safe operation of the City of Monroe Transit fleet.

!Education & Experience
- High school diploma or GED equivalent required.
- Experience in automotive or diesel vehicle maintenance and repair preferred.
- Basic knowledge of diesel engine systems, vehicle maintenance practices,
and shop safety procedures preferred.
- Experience using hand tools and maintenance equipment required.
Licenses & Certifications
- Valid Louisiana Driver 's License required.
- Louisiana Commercial Driver 's License (CDL) with Passenger (P)
Endorsement required, or ability to obtain within a specified probationary
period (if applicable per City policy).
- Current Motor Vehicle Report (MVP) required.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
- Ability to assist in diagnosing and repairing transit vehicle mechanical
systems.
- Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
- Ability to safely operate transit vehicles and maintenance equipment.

TOOLS & EQUIPMENT
- Must possess a basic set of mechanic tools (up to W2 inch) and a rolling
toolbox, as required by the department.
WORK ENVIRONMENT / PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Work is performed in a maintenance shop environment, outdoors, and
occasionally roadside under varying weather conditions.
- Frequent standing, walking, bending, kneeling, climbing, reaching, and lifting
required.
- Exposure to grease, oil, diesel fuel, loud noise, moving mechanical parts, and
other maintenance-related conditions.
