Primary Responsabilities
Safety is the most important part of all jobs within Nucor; therefore, candidates must be able to demonstrate the ability to initiate, lead, and uphold safety policies, practices, procedures, and housekeeping standards at all times.
- Primary responsibilities are those of a Diesel Mechanic II, with additional responsibility to serve as the backup equipment operator for stationary and mobile equipment.
- Diagnose, maintain, and repair diesel-powered mobile equipment, including engines, fuel systems, cooling systems, electrical systems, hydraulic systems, brakes, and drivetrains.
- Perform preventive maintenance, inspections, troubleshooting, and repairs on diesel equipment and production machinery.
- Follow all company and OSHA safety procedures.
- Wear proper PPE, as required.
- Clean and maintain production equipment and machinery.
- Ensure equipment is properly and adequately lubricated.
- Complete routine service work, including fluid and filter changes.
- Identify equipment issues and communicate needed repairs or parts.
- Use hand tools, power tools, diagnostic equipment, cutting torches, and stick-welding equipment.
- Operate mobile equipment such as forklifts, skid steers, mobile shears, and material handlers.
- Maintain accurate maintenance and repair records, as required.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Experience maintaining or repairing diesel-powered equipment.
- Experience working in an industrial or outdoor work environment.
- Mechanical knowledge and troubleshooting skills.
- Basic knowledge of diesel engines, hydraulic systems, electrical systems, and mobile equipment.
- Basic welding experience.
- Minimum of one year of experience working in a manufacturing, industrial, heavy-equipment, or diesel-maintenance environment.
- Demonstrated ability to work safely at all times and with a safe sense of urgency.
- Ability to operate mobile equipment in varying work conditions.
- Ability to work effectively with others in a team environment.
- Ability to meet the attendance schedule with dependability and consistency.
- Ability to perform the physical duties associated with inspecting, maintaining, and repairing heavy equipment.
