The Mechanic is responsible for comprehending and utilizing blueprints, sketches, drawings, technical manuals, and work specification instructions in order to repair or replace machinery components related to LCACs. This position reports directly to the Mechanical Superintendent.Required Education and Experience:High School Diploma or Certificate from a college or technical school or equivalent combination of education and experience in mechanical role preferred.Industrial and/or marine advanced mechanical experience preferred:Journeyman 1: 1-3 yearsJourneyman 2: 3-5 yearsJourneyman 3: 5+ years2+ years Navy ship repair experience (shipyard, contractor, government)Ability to comprehend and utilize blueprints, sketches, drawings, technical manuals to weld metalsMust have strong work ethic, be self-motivated, and able to multitaskAble to work in a fast-paced environment with ongoing deadlinesMust be able to work independentlyUnderstanding of Ship repair industryMust be DBIDS/TWIC credential eligibleMust possess a valid driver's licenseMust be able to pass a pre-employment drug testPreferred Experience:LCAC/SSC experience preferredWorking Conditions:Open-air conditions such as noisy, hot, cold, as well as in an office-controlled environment.May have work in confined spaces.Must wear hearing, eye, head protection and proper PPE when required.Visits may require standing on a variety of surfaces and at differing angles, bending over, crouching, climbing up ladders, and over obstructions such as scaffolding and internal craft structural members to perform work.50lbs. of lifting may be involved.Some travel may be requiredNote: This job description does not cover or contain a complete comprehensive listing of duties or responsibilities that will be required of the employee for this position.
