OVERVIEW OF THE ROLE
The position of the Mechanic Supervisor B maintains all equipment and vehicles throughout the Pontchartrain Levee District operation. This includes supervising and/or training mechanics, determining work orders, handing out duties, purchasing of parts and supplies, maintaining the shop's annual budget, while also helping to prepare for future fiscal year budgets and help determine make and model of future equipment to be used as well as developing potential tools for levee maintenance.
Minimum Qualifications
Four years of experience or training as a mechanic.

Job Duties and Other Information
Job Duties:
Supervises the master mechanics and other shop personnel (welders, etc.) and directs the operations of the maintenance shop which is engaged with the repair and maintenance of vehicles, heavy mobile equipment including but not limited to dozers, excavators, skid loaders, marsh buggy, backhoes, tractors and mowers to include A/C repair;
Assigns work to master mechanics and other shop personnel. Inspects all work in progress on site and at vendor sites and upon completion
Responsible to the operation and upkeep of all floodgates along the Lake Pontchartrain & Vicinity, Hurricane Protection Levee in St. Charles Parish; assures that all gates are ready for usage during any incoming hurricane, tropical storm, or inclement weather; assisted the United States Corp of Engineers, New Orleans District and played a vital role in the hinge system design along with the Levee Board Operations Superintendent for the Canadian National Railroad Swing Gate.
Performs administrative functions; attends Board and Committee meetings; meets with Levee Board Operations Superintendent daily on issues and repair costs; approves leave, time and attendance; updates and fills cost and time records for repair activities; prepares and submits daily shop log and work orders; reviews operating budget-monthly cost of operations (repairs and purchase); helps prepare and make recommendations for fiscal year Maintenance Shop operating budget; reviews design and task ability of equipment before purchase of equipment; ensures that all new equipment is properly tagged for property control; communicates with all vendors; orders all parts, fuel and material required for daily operations; completes all purchase orders; reviews annual usage hours of all equipment for accuracy and monitoring; evaluates work performance by discussing performance review with subordinates and complete performance evaluation form.

Freon Recovery System
Eye Wash Station Program and Annual Inspection
Containment System for Oil
Load Test Program for Shop Hoist and Forklift
Shop Rebuild Program for large and small track equipment
Accountability Program for Fuel
Annual Operating Project
Recycle Program to ensure total usage of equipment to determine lifespan -research with regard to replace mentor substitute parts
Performs daily and weekly shop inspections including the lift machine, tire machine, balance machine, welding machine
Maintains condition of maintenance shop
Weekly fuel tank inspections
Manages vehicle fleet
Manages tractor fleet for entire grass cutting operation
Set up and maintain Shop Response Truck for equipment repair
Position-Specific Details:
Appointment Type: This appointment type can be filled as Probational - up to 24 months.
Career Progression: This position does not participate in a Career Progression Group.
Work Schedule: Monday-Thursday 6:00 am to 4:30 pm
Compensation: The salary offered will be determined based on qualifications and experience.
