Mechanical Engineer, Value Engineering
Pay: $70,000 – $90,000 per year, plus annual bonus opportunity
Location: Near Lindon, UT (on site)

The Opportunity
Our client, a well-established manufacturer, is looking for a Mechanical Engineer to drive cost and design improvements across one of its product lines. You'll take ideas from an early sketch all the way to production, finding smarter ways to design parts, use materials, and qualify alternatives, while proving each change works through hands-on testing. This is a great fit for an early-career engineer who enjoys getting their hands dirty and seeing their work make it onto the factory floor.
What You'll Do
- Lead value engineering initiatives from first concept through full production rollout
- Work side by side with manufacturing, design, and production colleagues to get more out of every piece of material
- Study competing products alongside product management and recommend alternative design directions
- Apply relevant industry standards and building-code specifications so that products meet internal and external requirements
- Sketch design concepts, produce detailed drawings, build prototypes, and confirm changes with internal teams and key customers
- Write test plans and design or build test fixtures when needed
- Run finite element analysis on new and existing designs and translate the results into practical improvements
- Carry out validation testing in the lab, on the production floor, and at customer installations, then analyze the data and write up findings
- Apply GD&T to drawings, and keep design-change records, bills of materials, and validation documents accurate and current
- Partner with suppliers to resolve manufacturability issues and protect quality through each change
- Track and report project progress using daily management routines, and help cross-functional teams keep implementation on schedule
What You Bring- Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering with 1–3 years of experience, or a master's degree with at least 1 year (engineering internships count toward experience)
- Background applying value engineering to design updates, cost-reduction efforts, and alternative concepts
- Skill with 2D drawings and 3D modeling (SolidWorks preferred), PDM, GD&T, tolerance stack-ups, and DFMEA
- Design experience with sheet metal, plastic molding, casting, and mechanisms
- Familiarity with FEA, hand calculations, failure mode analysis, and test methods that measure margin to failure
- Ability to write test procedures, run functional tests, and connect results to real-world performance
- A hands-on, creative problem-solver who stays accountable, takes initiative, and drives results
- Strong communication and relationship-building skills across departments
- Comfort in a fast-paced manufacturing setting, including raising risks and clearing roadblocks
- Proficiency with Outlook, Word, and Excel
- Willingness to travel overnight up to 10% of the time
