Mechanical Engineer - CFD / Data Center Systems
Location: Remote or On-Site | Salary: $100,000 - $150,000 | Employment Type: Direct Hire / Full-Time | Experience: 4+ Years Preferred

Job Summary
We are seeking a Mechanical Engineer specializing in Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) modeling for data center systems. The ideal candidate will have 4+ years of experience performing CFD analysis using Cadence software, with a strong background in data center cooling systems, airflow analysis, and thermal optimization. This role supports both interior white space and exterior infrastructure modeling to enhance cooling performance, energy efficiency, and overall environmental behavior of data center facilities.

Required Qualifications

Cadence CFD Software (Required): Minimum 4+ years of hands-on experience using Cadence CFD tools for thermal and airflow modeling. This is a non-negotiable requirement.
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related engineering field.
Demonstrated experience with data center cooling technologies including IT equipment, emergency generators, air-cooled/water-cooled chillers, cooling distribution units, cooling towers, adiabatic coolers, CRAH/CRAC units, liquid cooling systems, and containment solutions.
Strong applied understanding of thermodynamics and fluid mechanics as relevant to HVAC and data center environments.
Proficiency interpreting engineering drawings, equipment specifications, and facility layouts.
Ability to manage multiple concurrent CFD modeling tasks with high attention to detail.
Strong communication skills with the ability to present complex technical findings to non-technical stakeholders.
Working knowledge of ASHRAE TC 9.9 and applicable data center design standards.

Preferred Qualifications

Engineer-in-Training (EIT) or Professional Engineer (PE) license.
Experience supporting design optimization for high-density or mission-critical data center environments.

Key Responsibilities

Develop CFD models (air and liquid) of data center white space and outdoor infrastructure.
Simulate airflow, heat transfer, and pressure distributions to evaluate cooling performance, containment strategies, and equipment layouts.
Analyze interior and exterior data center conditions to optimize airflow, thermal behavior, and environmental performance.
Evaluate exterior environmental conditions including wind loading, heat island effects, and outdoor air intake behavior.
Interpret simulation results to identify risks, inefficiencies, and opportunities for design improvement.
Collaborate with Architectural, Electrical, and Mechanical design teams to support data center system design decisions.
Prepare technical reports and presentations summarizing modeling assumptions, methodologies, results, and design recommendations.
Support design optimization for cooling systems, containment solutions, and equipment placement.
Maintain and refine CFD simulation libraries including equipment models, boundary conditions, and environmental templates.
Ensure CFD modeling and design recommendations comply with ASHRAE TC 9.9 and internal data center design standards.

Cadence CFD Software (Required): Minimum 4+ years of hands-on experience using Cadence CFD tools for thermal and airflow modeling.
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related field.
Data Center Cooling Experience: Demonstrated knowledge of cooling technologies including CRAH/CRAC units, chillers, cooling towers, liquid cooling systems, and containment solutions.
Thermodynamics & Fluid Mechanics: Strong applied understanding of heat transfer and fluid dynamics as relevant to HVAC and data center environments.
