A well-established specialty contractor operating across the U.S. is hiring a Mechanical Piping Construction Estimator for its Greater Kansas City office. This firm delivers multi-trade construction solutions — including mechanical, piping, HVAC, plumbing, and building systems — on complex non-residential projects in healthcare, industrial, mission critical, and heavy commercial sectors. This role offers a lead estimating position with real ownership over bid outcomes, team leadership, and direct access to decision-makers at the owner and GC level.

  • Anticipate $90K-$150K, dependent on experience

Overview:

  • Prepare detailed mechanical piping construction estimates used for bid preparation, project planning, subcontractor and vendor selection, and cost-effectiveness analysis
  • Lead a team of estimators: manage work assignments, performance reviews, resource allocation, and skills development
  • Collaborate with marketing to evaluate bid opportunities against the company's strategic growth targets
  • Represent the firm's capabilities directly to GC and owner-level decision-makers during the estimating and pre-award process
  • Consult with clients, vendors, and field staff to develop accurate estimates and resolve scope or pricing questions
  • Track and analyze cost trends to support ongoing process improvement and margin management

Preferred Skills/Experiences:

  • ** High school diploma or GED required; Bachelor's degree in construction management or mechanical engineering preferred**
  • ** Minimum 5 years of mechanical piping construction estimating experience**
  • ** Demonstrated experience bidding non-residential projects at $250,000 or more**
  • Experience in industrial, healthcare, mission critical, government, or heavy commercial construction preferred
  • Proficiency with computerized estimating software; Accubid Enterprise experience a plus
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook); willingness to learn new platforms required
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills; comfortable presenting to external stakeholders
  • Valid driver's license and clean driving record required; must pass background check and drug screen
