As a Mechanical/Process Engineer, you will be a hands-on technical leader responsible for lineside support and process improvement within a high-speed medical technology manufacturing environment. You will spend approximately 70-80% of your time on the production floor, using data-driven insights to optimize capacity, reduce waste, and improve cost efficiency. This role requires a blend of mechanical design expertise and practical troubleshooting skills to ensure the success of complex production lines.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Support production lines by identifying process bottlenecks and implementing data-driven improvements.
  • Focus on capacity expansion through process optimization, quality enhancement, and cost-reduction initiatives.
  • Design, debug, and implement machine improvements and capital equipment modifications.
  • Assist project engineers with design feedback, installation, and coordination of capital projects.
  • Manage multiple projects of varying scales to meet safety, quality, delivery, and cost objectives.
  • Oversee all technical documentation, including validations, operating procedures, PM schedules, and Engineering Change Notifications (ECNs).
  • Coordinate activities between equipment vendors, R&D teams, and plant departments.
  • Prepare capital appropriation requests and control expenditures for small-scale improvements.
  • Guide, mentor, and develop technical staff to ensure a culture of continuous improvement.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
Technical Skills:
  • Proficient in mechanical design, specifically for tooling and fixtures.
  • Expertise in SolidWorks and AutoCAD is required (other CAD experience considered).
  • Advanced capability in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
  • Strong troubleshooting skills for cam-driven equipment integrating pneumatics, servos, and PLC-driven sensors.
  • Ability to create, modify, and redesign technical drawings.
  • Understanding of Preventive Maintenance (PM) principles and data-driven troubleshooting.
Functional Skills:
  • Experience in managing vendor relationships and securing contractor quotations.
  • Ability to determine the feasibility of in-house fabrication versus external contracting.
  • Knowledge of established safety standards (EHS) and manufacturing industry practices.
  • Expertise in technical writing for Bill of Materials (BOM) and validation protocols.
Behavioral Skills:
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, high-volume manufacturing environment.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to present technical content to non-technical audiences.
  • Collaborative mindset for working with cross-functional teams and supervising support personnel.
Education & Experience:
  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering is preferred; significant equivalent experience will be considered.
  • Experience: 2 to 5 years of experience is preferred, though all levels will be considered with compensation adjusted accordingly.
