Role Overview

The Mechanical Superintendent - Sheetmetal provides overall leadership and direction to field supervision and sheet metal craft personnel. This role oversees day-to-day field operations to ensure work is executed safely, efficiently, and in alignment with the company's quality and cost-efficiency standards.

The Superintendent partners closely with project leadership to drive productivity, coordinate resources, and support successful project delivery, and serves as the senior field authority on manpower, scheduling, and quality across assigned projects.

Core Responsibilities

  1. Plan, direct, and coordinate craft personnel in support of the field's fluctuating labor needs for activities related to project/systems construction and maintenance.
  2. Direct, support, and mentor all subordinate supervisory personnel.
  3. Serve as senior technical advisor.
  4. Assist with difficult construction or start-up problems when necessary.
  5. Ensure all company, department, and technical policies, procedures, standards, etc., are adhered to.
  6. Interpret policies as required.
  7. Assist with implementation and interpretation of safety policies, procedures, and programs.
  8. Participate in safety/incident investigations and reviews.
  9. Authorize/approve all craft personnel transactions (hiring, transfers, wage changes, terminations, etc.) according to individual performance and group needs.
  10. Develop, implement, and monitor quality control programs.
  11. Monitor and resolve matters relating to work procedures, complaints, damages, accidents, and delays.
  12. Participate in the conceptual development of a construction project and oversee its organization, scheduling, and implementation.
  13. Requisition supplies and materials for construction projects.
  14. Ensure superintendents prepare and submit labor and cost tracking reports.
  15. Assist in the development of supervisory training programs.
  16. Provide expertise and technical knowledge to other home office department heads.
  17. May assist in jurisdictional disputes and other union negotiations as required.
  18. May assume superintendent responsibilities when necessary or as directed.
  19. Perform additional assignments per supervisor's direction.

Required Background

  1. Completion of craft apprenticeship program or equivalent skill level and training
  2. 8+ years in supervisory position
  3. Ability to understand the project scopes and objectives as well as scopes of other construction trades
  4. Advanced knowledge and understanding of OSHA safety regulations as well as company safety policies and procedures
  5. Ability to read drawings and interpret specifications
  6. Ability to assess crew and foremen skills and coach/mentor
  7. Strong leadership and team-building skills
  8. Strong oral and written communication skills
  9. Ability to identify, troubleshoot, and resolve problems before major difficulties develop
  10. Ability to manage differences and diversity at the workplace
  11. Advanced understanding of construction scheduling and cost control
  12. Ability to handle administrative duties of position, including completion of required paperwork
  13. Effective use of computers and other technology
  14. Ability to effectively use time management and goal-setting
  15. Willingness to be held accountable and act honestly and with integrity
  16. Strong attention to detail and ability to remain diplomatic and calm under pressure
  17. Employment is contingent upon satisfying all jobsite-specific access requirements, with no outstanding restrictions from any jobsite or from working with any of the company's partnering General Contractors, Owners, Customers, etc.
  18. High school degree or equivalent; some college preferred
  19. OSHA-30 certification (if not currently certified, must be obtained within six (6) months from date of hire)
