Medication Technicians are an essential part of our Wellness Team, administering medications to residents in a safe, accurate, and timely manner under the supervision of a licensed nurse and the general direction of the Wellness Director.
Memory Care experience is required. Candidates must have previous experience working with residents with dementia and/or Alzheimer’s disease.
Hiring for day shift and night shift.
Prepare and administer medications as allowed by state regulation to residents, following established policies and procedures.
Accurately complete required documentation of medication administration at the time of service delivery. Verify the identity of the resident receiving medication and record the name of the drug, dosage, route, and time of administration on specified forms or records.
Review MARs immediately after medication administration and prior to the end of each shift to ensure documentation is complete and accurate.
Notify the supervisor when making the decision not to administer a medication as ordered.
Communicate effectively at the end of each shift, relaying relevant and pertinent information regarding resident care, concerns, changes, and other important information to oncoming/outgoing personnel.
Maintain security of the medication cart and narcotic keys throughout the entire shift. Conduct narcotic counts at the beginning and end of every shift in accordance with company policies and procedures.
Observe residents and report changes in their psychosocial and physical condition, as well as concerns such as skin breakdown, rash, behavioral changes, speech changes, changes in appearance, or other changes in condition, to the Wellness Director.
Maintain a clean, safe, and orderly environment for residents. Ensure resident rooms are clean and tidy throughout each day and complete scheduled housekeeping tasks, such as laundry, as assigned.
Assist residents with activities of daily living, including ambulation, transferring, showering, personal hygiene, incontinence care, feeding, reminders, and supervision according to the individual plan of care.
Gather, engage, and assist residents in activities. Conduct activities in groups or one-on-one with residents as requested. Encourage residents to socialize, participate in planned activities, and develop friendships with other residents.
Communicate professionally with physicians and third-party specialists, including home care providers, laboratory providers, and hospice professionals.
Maintain resident records daily in accordance with company policies and procedures.
Follow established safety protocols, including fire protection, infection control, bloodborne pathogens, hazardous waste, and quality assurance procedures.
Respond to all requests for assistance promptly and with a positive demeanor, including emergency pull cords, telephone calls, and requests from family members or friends.
Report all complaints, grievances, suspected abuse, and instances of abuse to the Wellness Director and/or Executive Director.
Participate in and attend Wellness meetings and required trainings to ensure compliance with all regulations and policies.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Required: Previous experience working in Memory Care and providing direct care to residents with dementia and/or Alzheimer’s disease.
Ability to communicate clearly and effectively with both residents and staff.
Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
Ability to write simple correspondence.
Ability to make standard and routine decisions as allowed by state regulation based on training, knowledge gained through required job certification, detailed guidelines, and judgment.
Ability to identify and report changes in residents’ physical, behavioral, and psychosocial conditions.
Successful completion of a state-approved medication administration course and other state-required certifications necessary to perform job duties as allowed by state regulations.
Ability to demonstrate patience, compassion, and understanding when working with residents experiencing cognitive impairment, dementia, or Alzheimer’s disease.
Previous experience as a Certified Medication Aide or Medication Technician.
Experience working with older adults.
Previous experience in Assisted Living or Memory Care.
Knowledge of dementia and related diseases.
High school diploma or equivalent educational experience.
Minimum 18 years of age.
Previous Memory Care experience, including direct experience working with residents with dementia and/or Alzheimer’s disease, is required.
Must pass a pre-employment background check, drug screen, TB test, and physical.
Must maintain all required certifications and qualifications in accordance with applicable state regulations.
