GENERAL SUMMARY
The purpose of this position is to provide essential healthcare support to Kalamazoo County Jail nursing staff in a 24-hour physically secure criminal justice facility. Including medication administration, medical record maintenance, and medical supply management.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Assist Jail nursing staff with patient care in accordance with nursing directives.
- Collect specimens, obtain vital signs, monitor blood glucose, perform urine testing, and administer injections, venipunctures, treatments, and routine diagnostic procedures.
- Operate medical equipment, conduct diagnostic testing, and accurately record results in patient records and required forms.
- Identify and report issues that may disrupt continuity of medical services to nursing staff.
- Maintain medical equipment and supply inventory, orders medications, and program materials as needed.
- Provides clerical support including data entry and tracking inmate correspondence.
- Performs related duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATION
- High School diploma or equivalency.
- Six months or more of training beyond high school.
- One to three years (1 - 3 years) of related work experience. Any equivalent combination of training, education, and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
Required Licenses or Certifications
- American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA) certification or equivalent is required within 6 months of hire.
