Summary of Duties and Responsibilities:
The Medical Assistant performs foundational clinical duties under direction while developing proficiency in clinic workflows, service line expectations, and electronic medical record (EMR) processes. This role focuses on accuracy, consistency, and safe patient care.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
Complete the clinical intake requirements. For example, measures and records patient specific information: height, weight, respiration, pulse, blood pressure, temperature, pulse oximetry (Sp02) and head circumference as appropriate, documenting accurately in the EMR.
Administers immunizations under provider direction, including providing Vaccine Information Statements (VIS) updating OSIIS, and documenting accurately in the EMR.
Collects patient specimens (e.g., throat and nasal swabs) following established protocols.
Follows clinical policies, procedures, and standards to support patient safety, accuracy, and efficient clinic flow.
Utilizes the EMR to complete assigned tasks accurately and timely.
Uses standard medical terminology and medication references as required for assigned duties.
Demonstrates attention to detail to ensure accurate documentation, specimen handling, and task completion.
Communicates effectively with patients, providers, and team members using appropriate written, verbal and non-verbal communication.
Accepts feedback and incorporates coaching to improve performance and consistency.
Manages assigned tasks using basic time-management and prioritization skills.
Identifies patient concerns or issues and escalates appropriately.
Demonstrates respectful, patient-centered interactions that value patient perspectives.
May be required to float within the clinic to maintain business continuity.
Psychiatric specialty clinics:
Serves as a liaison with rural clinic staff to support clinic-to-clinic visits
Assists in trouble shooting pharmacy and EPIC /evist scheduling concerns
Ensures all screening tools and paperwork is completed timely
Administers long-acting injections

Requirements, Special Skills or Knowledge:
High School Diploma or GED.
Demonstrated proficiency of core competencies within 90 days of employment, including:
Foundational clinical skills
Accurate and timely documentation
Reliability in assigned workflows

Commitment to continued skill development
Must complete and pass CPR course within 90 days of employment.
Possess intermediate computer skills, including data entry and typing.
Knowledge of instrumentation used in lab point of care testing, as directed, within 90 days.
Ability to maintain confidentiality of information in accordance with HIPAA and Variety Care policy.
Ability to effectively communicate with the patient population.
Ability to work in a multi-faceted, fast-paced work environment.

Essential Functions:
