Position Purpose: Participate in the coordination of care and treatment of patients under the direct supervision of a Licensed Independent Practitioner (LIP). Care is provided in compliance with the departments policies and procedures, guidelines, and regulations.

Essential Functions: Takes patients vital signs; prepares patients for examinations, giving them instructions based upon the reason for the visit. This includes allergies, documenting the patients pain rating, initiating the patients personal, family, and social histories, and other relevant patient data. Records all patient data in the patients chart in accordance with department policy. Provide examination exit instruction to patients pursuant to department policy and protocol as directed by the provider. Provides discharge instruction to the patient and ensures the patient has all questions and coordination of care issues resolved prior to discharging the patient from the treatment area. Escorts patients throughout treatment areas of the department and assists providers with patient examinations and procedures consistent with a multispecialty clinic, including but not limited to changing dressings on wounds, removing sutures, minor office procedures, cast removal/application, and assisting with gynecological exams. Administers immunizations and other therapeutic injections under the direction of the LIP in accordance with established department policy. Serves as department preceptor to new medical assistant employees and externing students. Document telephone messages according to department policy and provide timely feedback/answers to the patient/providerregarding patient care. Perform general office duties such as reminder telephone calls, coping/faxing, answering telephones and scheduling appointments. Maintains hospital infection control standards in keeping all treatment areas clean and stocked with required medical supplies and instruments. Performs Point of Care testing in accordance with established hospital-wide standards, practices and department policy. Maintain all logs and required checks (i.e. refrigerator temperatures, quality controls, open/closing checklists, expired medications/supplies, etc.) in accordance with department policy and protocols.

General Job requirements: Diploma or Degree from an accredited Medical Assistant program. Medical Assistant Certification from one of the following: National Center for Competency Testing, American Association of Medical Assistants, or National Association for Health Professionals; or pass all certification requirements to become a Registered Medical Assistant by the American Medical Technologists. Excellent documentation skills (including grammar, spelling and punctuation). Ability to demonstrate exceptional customer service and telephone etiquette skills in a consistent manner. CPR Certification.
