Harbor Health is seeking per diem Medical Assistantsto provide as needed coverage at our health center in Dorchester, Geiger Gibson Community Health Centerwith ability to float to our other centers includingDaniel Driscoll Neponset Health Center as needed. Role:TheMedical Assistant assists the providers by preparing patients to be seen by collecting and recording necessary data for health, weight, medication and allergies, performs simple lab tests such as urine dipstick, takes and records temperature, pulse, respiration and blood pressure, performs vision testing, assists providers with simple procedures and other related duties.Responsibilities:Prepares patients for Provider visit/examinations by obtaining and documenting patient's vital signs which include: Height, weight, Blood Pressure, Pulse, Temperature, Respirations, Oxygen Saturation, Pain assessment, Vision screening when required by provider.Obtains a medical history by asking patients questions about their new/changes to medical conditions, .medication review, allergy review and documents appropriately in EMR.Performs and documents screening assessments in EMR such as Tobacco screening, HSQ (Depression Screening), Domestic Violence ScreeningPerforms and documents all Point of Care CLIA Waived Lab Testing in lab area. Tests included Glycohemoglobin A1C, Fingerstick Glucose, Urine Dipstick, Rapid Strep, Rapid Flu, Urine Drug ScreenPerforms necessary daily Quality Control Testing on designated Point of Care tests.Assists patient with Portal Enrollment.Answers patient portal messages as needed.Obtains Pre-Visit Daily report and reviews with providerAssists the providers with simple non-nursing procedures. Acts as a chaperone when necessary.Disinfects patient touching equipment after every patient use, cleans and disinfects each exam room thoroughly after each clinic and documents completion on Work Surface Decontamination Log.Replaces Sharps Containers in each exam room when ¾ full with a new sharps container. Transports full sharps container to designated Bio-Hazard area.Routinely stocks and cleans rooms, orders necessary supplies as needed and in coordination with nursing leadershipPerforms organizational and operational processes with the department as assigned.Assures continuity of patient care by tracking and obtaining outstanding lab and test results for all patient visits.Performs EKG's as ordered by providers.Performs additional tasks such as Telederm and RetinaVue processes as ordered by providers.Assists providers during sessions by copying and faxing patient care documents as assigned by provider or nurse.Answers department telephone line and task box, if appropriate.Requirements:High School Diploma and/or GEDMedical Assistant Certification from an accredited program preferred or acceptable substitutionCurrent BLS (Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers) Certification Bilingual; English/Spanish, English/Vietnamese, English/Portuguese desiredBasic computer skills including knowledge of Office 365 (Word, Excel and Outlook and Teams).Experience using EMR (EPIC) highly desired.Substitutions for Medical Assistant Certification:Successful completion of 1 year of an accredited Nursing Degree Program (must present official transcript.)2 years of college level health care related science courses with healthcare experience in a hospital or healthcare setting preferred (must provide certification or diploma/transcript).Current CNA Certification (state registration) or Adult Education Medical Assisting Certificate Program with healthcare experience in a hospital or healthcare setting preferred (must provide certification.)Completion of Nursing Assistant or Home Health Aide training program with healthcare experience in a hospital or other healthcare setting preferred (must provide proof of training).Current National Medical Assistant Certification with 2-3 years of experience as an MA, CNA or in direct patient care, with experience within the last ten years.Current EMT Certification.All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, disability or veteran status.Our health centers are open 2 evenings a week (Tuesdays and Thursdays) and Saturdays, 8:30 AM - 12:30 PM at Neponset Health Center. Shifts are 8:00 AM - 5:30 PM or 10:45 AM - 8:30 PM Monday through Friday availability Per Diem (on call) as needed, must be willing to float to other center if needed.
