Job Summary: The Clinic Medical Assistant supports healthcare providers and clinical staff by performing both clinical and administrative duties to ensure efficient clinic operations and high-quality patient care. This role is essential in creating a safe, organized, and compassionate environment for patients.
Reports To: Director, Outpatient Services | Manager, Business Office
Hourly Range: $18.75 - $27.46 (posted hourly range excludes overtime and bonuses which are not guaranteed)
Essential Job Functions
- Prepare patients for examinations and assist providers during clinical procedures
- Take and record vital signs, medical histories, and patient information accurately
- Perform basic clinical tasks such as injections, specimen collection, and EKGs (as permitted by scope of practice)
- Maintain clean, organized, and well-stocked exam rooms
- Document patient care in electronic health record (EHR) systems
- Schedule patient appointments and assist with patient flow
- Follow infection control, safety, and HIPAA guidelines
Additional Duties
- Assist with front desk tasks, including patient check-in and check-out
- Handle phone calls, messages, and patient inquiries as needed
- Support inventory management and ordering of medical supplies
- Participate in staff meetings, training, and continuing education
- Perform other duties as assigned
Minimum Requirements
Education:
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program preferred
- Medical Assistant certification (CMA, RMA, or equivalent) preferred or required per clinic policy
Experience:
- 1-2 years of experience in a clinical or medical office setting preferred
- Experience with EHR systems and basic clinical procedures preferred
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand, walk, and move throughout the clinic for extended periods
- Ability to lift or move up to 25 pounds
- Manual dexterity to perform clinical tasks and use medical equipment
- Ability to communicate clearly with patients and staff
Working Conditions/Environmental Exposures
Environmental hazards such as chemicals, solvents, needles, needle containers, sharps, blood, body fluids, various infectious/communicable diseases, infectious medical waste, radiation, and/or radioactive materials and/or radioactive waste, proximity to moving mechanical parts. Protective clothing/equipment may be necessary.
ASH IMMUNIZATIONS AND VACCINATIONS REQUIREMENTS - Aligns with CDC's Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP) for Healthcare Personnel
- Hepatitis B- Lab evidence of immunity (titer) to Hepatitis B or three doses Hep B vaccine at appropriate intervals
- Influenza- documentation of current seasonal flu vaccine (mandatory from November 1st through March 31st each year)
- Measles, Mumps, and Rubella - Lab evidence of immunity (titer) to Measles, Mumps, and Rubella or 2 doses of MMR Vaccination
- Varicella (chickenpox) - Lab evidence of immunity (titer) to Varicella or 2 doses of Varicella Vaccine
- Tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis (Tdap) - documented proof of immunization
- Tuberculosis Screening - Documentation of a two-step TB skin test within the past year OR lab verification of a negative TB Gold or T-Spot tuberculin test within the past 6 months
- VACCINE RECORDS OR EVIDENCE OF IMMUNITY ARE REQUIRED PRIOR TO 1ST DAY OF SCHEDULED WORK
