Full-Time Medical Assistant | UPMC Hamot - Heart & Vascular Institute

Preferred Qualifications

  • One to two years of Medical Assistant or related clinical experience is highly preferred.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team.

Title and salary will be determined based upon education and experience.

Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate daily schedules and organize patient flow to support efficient clinic operations.
  • Escort patients to exam and procedure rooms and assist with walking, transfers, dressing, specimen collection, and exam preparation as needed.
  • Collect patient histories, obtain vital signs, and perform screenings in accordance with provider guidelines.
  • Provide patient and family education and relay provider instructions as directed.
  • Answer telephone calls and provide appropriate information to patients and families.
  • Prepare patient rooms and set up instruments and equipment according to department protocols.
  • Clean exam and procedure rooms, instruments, and equipment between patient visits to maintain infection control standards.
  • Complete scheduled cleaning and maintenance activities and maintain appropriate documentation.
  • Manage inventory and restock exam and procedure rooms as needed.
  • Perform phlebotomy, EKGs, and Level I laboratory testing.
  • Assist physicians with clinical procedures and accurately document patient information in the electronic medical record.
  • Obtain laboratory and imaging reports, hospital records, and referral information.
  • Complete required forms, requisitions, and other clinical documentation.
  • Schedule patient appointments and verify insurance coverage and demographic information.
  • Prepare, maintain, and manage patient charts to ensure information is complete and properly filed.
  • Send and receive medical records in compliance with HIPAA and applicable state and federal regulations.
  • Under the direction and supervision of a physician, administer injectable medications and vaccines, as appropriate.
  • Comply with all applicable regulatory requirements, including OSHA, CLIA, and Pennsylvania Department of Health standards.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality of patient information, medical records, and other sensitive data.
  • Adhere to all UPMC policies, procedures, and standards of conduct.
  • Perform additional clinical and administrative duties as assigned.
  • High school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Must have basic computer skills and knowledge of medical terminology, examination, diagnostic and treatment room responsibilities.

Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:

  • CPR required based on AHA standards that include both a didactic and skills demonstration component within 30 days of hire
