The Medical Assistant II provides clinical and administrative support to the Precision Health High-Risk Cancer Screening Clinic, serving patients who have an increased risk for hereditary or familial cancer syndromes and/or require enhanced cancer screening and surveillance. This position works collaboratively with physicians, advanced practice providers, genetic counselors, nurses, and other members of the multidisciplinary Precision Health team to facilitate high-quality, patient-centered care.
Responsibilities
The Medical Assistant II provides clinical and administrative support to the Precision Health High-Risk Cancer Screening Clinic, serving patients who have an increased risk for hereditary or familial cancer syndromes and/or require enhanced cancer screening and surveillance. This position works collaboratively with physicians, advanced practice providers (APPs), genetic counselors (GCs), nurses, and other members of the multidisciplinary Precision Health team to facilitate high-quality, patient-centered care.
Patient Care and Clinical Support
Maintains patient flow during clinic hours and helps ensure patients are roomed and seen in a timely manner.
Welcomes and interacts with patients in a professional, compassionate, and patient-centered manner.
Obtains and documents review of systems and pertinent clinical information according to clinic protocols.
Measures and records vital signs such as pulse rate, respirations, blood pressure, weight, and height, as applicable.
Updates past and current medical, surgical, social, and family history (focusing on obtaining a detailed family cancer history) at each visit to support high-risk cancer screening and risk assessment.
Reviews medications, allergies, and medication lists and updates information at each visit.
Prepares examination rooms and maintains clean, organized, and fully stocked rooms.
Performs clinical duties within scope of practice, which may include phlebotomy.
Operates and maintains appropriate and clinical equipment according to established procedures.
Performs other clinical duties as assigned.
Medical Records and Patient Information
Correctly and accurately records patient information in the electronic medical records (EMR).
Communicates with outside healthcare organizations to obtain records and other information needed for patient care.
Assists with obtaining outside medical records, imaging, laboratory and testing reports when needed.
Scans medical records or other clinical documents into the EMR as requested by the APPs.
Communication and Clinical Workflow
Recognizes patient questions or concerns that require clinical follow-up and appropriately communicates them to the appropriate APP.
Returns patient calls and obtains pertinent information needed to address patient concerns.
Responds to MyChart messages as appropriate and according to office protocols.
Administrative Support
Schedules appointments and performs patient check-in and check-out functions as needed.
Helps coordinate and schedule recommended screening and follow-up as instructed by the APPs.
Works in-baskets, daily workflow logs, work queues, and other assigned tasks within the EMR.
Communicates with patients, pharmacies, insurance companies, outside healthcare facilities, and other members of the healthcare team as needed.
Processes medication requests as appropriate and according to office protocols.
Orders and maintains appropriate medical and clinical supplies.
Helps ensure the clinic has the supplies, equipment, and resources needed for daily patient care.

Protects patient confidentiality and maintains patient confidence by appropriately keeping patient care information confidential.
Understands and adheres to legal responsibilities, scope of practice, and requirements of the Medical Assistant role.
Demonstrates professionalism, accountability, adaptability, and effective communication when working with patients and team members.
Supports a collaborative team environment and assists coworkers as needed to ensure efficient clinic operations.
Performs all other job duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Education
High school diploma or equivalent. Associate Degree and/or Certified/Registered MA preferred.
Graduate of a Medical Assistant program or previous Medical Assisting experience required.
Years of Experience
2 to 5 years of MA or other relevant experience preferred; Practice in different care settings (e.g. Primary care, Specialty, Oncology, Genetics, EMT, etc.)
Strong verbal and social skills to facilitate working respectfully with patients, physicians, visitors, co-workers, and drug reps in person or by telephone required.
Ability and willingness to travel to other physician offices as requested or needed.
Complementary clinical skills such as phlebotomy are highly preferred.
Licenses & Certifications
Certified/Registered MA preferred. Must successfully complete skills orientation.
BLS certification required.
