Job Summary: The Infectious Disease Medical Assistant supports physicians and clinical providers by performing a variety of delegated clinical and administrative duties. This role ensures efficient patient flow, maintains high standards of infection control, and contributes to a safe, organized, and patient-centered care environment. The Medical Assistant works closely with infectious disease specialists to assist in patient evaluation, treatment, follow-up care, and clinical coordination.

CLERICAL PRACTICE

Assist physicians in the examination, treatment, and care of patients in an infectious disease setting Prepare examination and treatment rooms, ensuring cleanliness, proper equipment setup, and adherence to infection control protocols Interview patients, document medical history, and review current symptoms or concerns Measure and record vital signs, including temperature, blood pressure, pulse, respiration rate, height, and weight Clean, disinfect, and sterilize medical instruments according to established safety and infection prevention standards Perform routine laboratory procedures such as specimen collection, CLIA waived tests, and sample preparation as permitted by certification and clinic policy Monitor inventory levels of medical supplies, PPE, and materials; place orders as needed to support continuous clinical operations

Administrative & Clerical Duties

Schedule and confirm patient appointments, including follow up visits, diagnostic testing, and specialist referrals Maintain accurate and up to date medical records within the electronic health record (EHR) system Complete insurance forms, prior authorizations, and patient correspondence as needed to support billing and care coordination Assist with front office tasks such as answering phones, checking patients in/out, and verifying insurance information Support overall clinical workflow to ensure timely patient care and efficient operations

EPIC, Outlook Email, Excel, Word

Minimum Qualifications:

Completion of an approved Medical Assistant or Medical Office Assistant program or one year experience directly related to the medical field; Current BLS certification through the American Heart Association or the American Red Cross; excellent interpersonal and organizational skills required.

Prior Knowledge of Medical Terminology and Medical Office Procedures Preferred Qualifications:

Assist physicians during patient examinations and treatments. Prepare exam rooms, ensure cleanliness, and follow infection control protocols. Interview patients, document histories, and record vital signs. Clean and sterilize instruments; perform basic lab tasks within scope. Maintain inventory of clinical supplies, including PPE. Schedule appointments, manage medical records, and complete insurance forms. Support patient flow, communicate clearly with clinical staff, and maintain confidentiality. Follow all safety, infection control, and organizational policies.

Work Days: Monday through Friday daytime hours
