ABOUT THE POSITION
The County of Riversides University Health System (RUHS) - Community Health Clinics are currently seeking qualified Medical Assistants throughout the County of Riverside for various departments. This job posting will serve to fill regular full-time and per-diem vacancies. This posting will remain open as vacancies arise, serving as an opportunity for prospective candidates to apply for available positions. Positions designated as bilingual (Spanish) recruitments require demonstrated proficiency. Candidates requesting consideration for bilingual recruitment must successfully complete and pass a County-administered bilingual proficiency assessment. Under direct supervision, Medical Assistants assist licensed professional medical staff within the Riverside University Health System (RUHS) by providing a variety of client/patient services, including basic administrative, clerical, and medical support services for clients/patients and the public; and other related duties as required. Possession of a valid Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association (AHA) is required.

EXAMPLES OF ESSENTIAL DUTIES
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
OPTION I
Education: Completion of a certification program in medical assisting. Completion of a Medical Assistant certification program accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) or from an institution accredited by the Accrediting Commission of Career Schools and Colleges (ACCSC) is preferred.
OPTION II
Education: Graduation from high school or attainment of a satisfactory score on a G.E.D. test.
Experience: One year performing front office/back office support duties as a medical assistant in a physicians or dentists office, hospital, health center, or other healthcare setting.
ALL OPTIONS
Certification: Possession of a valid certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) from the American Heart Association is required.
Knowledge of: Relevant medical terminology; basic patient care and/or administrative techniques; medical assisting skills and the various types of materials and equipment related to outpatient care and their applications; methods of conducting or assisting patients (per medical care providers instructions) with basic tests and treatments performed at an ambulatory care clinic; basic needs and problems of disadvantaged groups: the causes and treatment of medical and/or public health problems and the problems facing the educationally and economically disadvantaged.
Ability to: Communicate effectively orally and in writing; establish and maintain good relations with a wide range of social and ethnic groups as well as professional staff and community members; obtain and record accurate patient information, and perform routine clinical procedures; follow and implement activities according to written standardized procedures; perform clerical tasks (e.g., utilizing a personal computer for inputting pertinent client/patient information, answering phones, filing, etc.).

Pre-Employment

DEFERRED COMPENSATION: Voluntary employee contribution with a choice between two 457 deferred compensation plan options.
VACATION ACCRUAL (Bi-Weekly Accrual):
0 < 3 year = 80 Hours (10 Days)
4 < 9 years = 120 Hours (15 Days)
10 or more years = 160 Hours (20 Days)
Maximum Vacation leave accumulation is 480 hours.
SICK LEAVE: Four (4) hours Sick Leave accrual per pay period with unlimited accrual.
HOLIDAYS: Normally 12 paid holidays per year
BEREAVEMENT LEAVE: Allowed 5 days (3 days are County paid; 2 additional days can be taken from accrued Sick Leave balance)
BASIC LIFE INSURANCE: Equal to one times annual base salary not to exceed $50,000 of term life coverage. Premiums are paid by the County. Additional Supplemental Life plan is available for employee purchase.
DISABILITY:
Employees contribute to State Disability Insurance (SDI), which provides wage replacement benefits for those unable to work due to non-work-related illness, injury, or pregnancy. SDI also includes Paid Family Leave benefits. The wage replacement rate, as defined by current law, is between 60-70% of wages earned during the SDI eligibility period. Benefits can be coordinated with other available leave balances to provide up to 100% of regular pay.
POST RETIREMENT MEDICAL CONTRIBUTION: A monthly contribution is made by the County towards retiree health insurance offered through the County as governed by the applicable Memorandum of Understanding.
