Medical Assistant — Part-Time / Per Diem Swing Position

Rheum Without Walls is seeking dependable, organized medical assistants to join our rotating coverage team. This opportunity is geared toward recent medical assisting graduates and early-career candidates who have not yet acquired the 3–5 years of outpatient experience required for more experienced positions.


This is a hands-on role for someone who learns quickly, takes initiative, and can move between front-office and patient-care responsibilities as clinic needs change. Following initial orientation and demonstration of competency, candidates are expected to manage routine assigned duties with minimal supervision while working effectively with the broader team.


Responsibilities

• Support front-office operations, including patient check-in, check-out, scheduling, phone calls, and messages.
  
  
• Room patients, obtain vital signs, and update relevant information in the electronic medical record.
  
  
• Provide medical interpretation when language proficiency and qualifications meet practice requirements.
  
  
• Multitask, prioritize competing needs, and help maintain an organized clinic flow.
  
  
• Complete assigned daily tasks accurately and on time; communicate outstanding items and provide clear handoffs.
  
  
• Coordinate availability and rotating coverage with fellow swing medical assistants, subject to management approval.
  
  
• Follow practice procedures, protect patient confidentiality, and recognize when a question or concern requires escalation.

Recent medical assisting graduates are encouraged to apply. Candidates should have foundational medical assisting skills, comfort using computers, and a willingness to learn electronic medical record workflows. Spanish–English bilingual proficiency is strongly preferred.


Schedule


Part-time, per diem coverage based on clinic needs [ 1-2 days per week] and mutually confirmed availability. Weekly hours are not guaranteed. Staff are expected to communicate availability proactively and honor confirmed shifts.


Opportunity for Advancement


Candidates who demonstrate reliability, sound judgment, rapid learning, and the ability to organize clinic workflows may be considered for a position with greater responsibility, depending on performance and practice needs. Advancement, additional hours, and pay increases are not guaranteed.
