ABOUT MIDWAY SPECIALTY CARE

Midway Specialty Care is a nonprofit healthcare organization committed to providing high-quality, compassionate, and accessible care to the communities we serve. Through our growing network of locations and dedicated healthcare professionals, we work to create an environment where patients receive exceptional care and employees are empowered to make a meaningful difference.

Our continued growth depends on talented people who share our commitment to service, collaboration, accountability, and excellence. At Midway, every role contributes to our ability to strengthen our organization, support our teams, and deliver an exceptional experience for the patients and communities who depend on us.

WHY THIS ROLE MATTERS

The Medical Biller plays an essential role as a billing and claims specialist in supporting the financial health of Midway by ensuring medical claims are accurately processed, submitted on time, and followed through to resolution.

This position supports the medical billing and revenue cycle process, including insurance verification, claims submission, denial management, payment posting, and accounts receivable follow-up.

We are seeking an experienced, detail-oriented Medical Biller with a strong understanding of medical insurance billing, CPT and ICD-10 coding, and payer reimbursement processes.

The ideal candidate is organized, analytical, and proactive, with the ability to independently research billing issues, resolve claim discrepancies, and manage multiple priorities while maintaining accuracy and meeting deadlines.

Success in this role requires more than submitting claims. It requires consistent follow-through, problem-solving, and a commitment to helping minimize denials, resolve outstanding balances, and support timely reimbursement for services provided.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

  • Claims Review & Accuracy: Review patient demographics, insurance information, CPT and ICD-10 codes, charges, and supporting documentation to ensure claims are accurate and complete before submission.

  • Insurance Verification & Authorization: Verify insurance coverage and confirm required authorizations are on file and appropriately attached to claims to help prevent billing delays and denials.

  • Claims Submission & Processing: Prepare, submit, and monitor medical claims through electronic clearinghouses and payer systems, ensuring timely submission within established filing deadlines.

  • Denial Management & Resolution: Investigate rejected or denied claims, identify root causes, correct errors, and submit corrected claims or appeals as appropriate. Identify recurring denial trends and communicate opportunities for improvement.

  • Claims Follow-Up: Proactively monitor submitted claims, follow up with insurance companies regarding unpaid or delayed claims, and work toward timely resolution and reimbursement.

  • Accounts Receivable Management: Review aging reports, research outstanding balances, prioritize follow-up activities, and support efforts to reduce aging accounts and improve collections.

  • Payment Posting & Reconciliation: Accurately post insurance and patient payments, adjustments, contractual write-offs, and other account transactions while supporting reconciliation and accurate patient account balances.

  • Patient Account Management: Maintain accurate patient billing records, respond professionally to billing questions, explain account balances and statements, and assist with resolving payment concerns.

  • Payer Communication & Issue Resolution: Communicate with commercial insurance carriers, Medicare, Medicaid, and other third-party payers to research claims, resolve discrepancies, and address reimbursement issues.

  • Documentation & Compliance: Maintain accurate documentation of claims activity, payer communications, account adjustments, and resolution efforts while following HIPAA requirements, payer policies, and applicable billing regulations.

  • Team Collaboration: Partner with the Billing Manager, providers, front-office teams, and other internal departments to resolve billing discrepancies, improve claims accuracy, and support efficient billing operations.

  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

WHAT YOU'LL BRING

  • High school diploma required; additional education or certification in medical billing, coding, healthcare administration, or a related field preferred.

  • Minimum of three (3) years of hands-on medical insurance billing experience required, preferably in an outpatient healthcare or physician practice setting.

  • Demonstrated experience with electronic claims submission, insurance follow-up, rejected and denied claims, and accounts receivable management.

  • Strong working knowledge of CPT and ICD-10 coding, medical terminology, and insurance billing procedures.

  • Experience working with commercial insurance plans, Medicare, and Medicaid.

  • Proficiency in electronic medical records (EMR), practice management systems, and electronic claims processing.

  • Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy, particularly when reviewing patient demographics, insurance information, coding, charges, and financial transactions.

  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills, with the ability to independently research discrepancies, resolve billing issues, and follow claims through to resolution.

  • Strong organizational and time-management skills, including the ability to manage high-volume billing activities and meet payer filing deadlines.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Excel.

  • Effective written and verbal communication skills and the ability to work professionally with insurance representatives, patients, providers, and internal colleagues.

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and comply with HIPAA and applicable healthcare billing regulations.

WHAT WOULD SET YOU APART

  • Experience with eClinicalWorks (eCW) or a comparable electronic medical records and practice management system.

  • Medical billing certification, such as Certified Professional Biller (CPB).

  • Experience with insurance appeals, denial trend analysis, and accounts receivable aging reports.

  • Demonstrated success resolving outstanding claims, reducing billing errors, or improving collections.

  • Previous experience in infectious disease, specialty care, or a multi-location healthcare organization.

KEY COMPETENCIES

Accuracy & Attention to Detail: Carefully reviews claims, coding, insurance information, and financial transactions to minimize errors and prevent avoidable denials.

Claims Management & Follow-Through: Demonstrates persistence in monitoring claims, researching outstanding payments, and following billing issues through to resolution.

Problem-Solving & Analytical Thinking: Identifies discrepancies, investigates denial reasons, and applies appropriate corrective actions.

Organization & Time Management: Manages competing priorities, high-volume billing activities, and established filing deadlines.

Communication & Collaboration: Works effectively with insurance carriers, patients, providers, and internal team members to resolve issues professionally and efficiently.

Confidentiality & Compliance: Protects patient information and follows applicable billing requirements, organizational procedures, and HIPAA regulations.

WHAT SUCCESS LOOKS LIKE

  • Insurance and patient payments, adjustments, and account balances are accurately recorded and maintained.

  • Patient billing questions and payer inquiries are handled professionally and resolved efficiently.

  • Claims documentation and patient account records are complete, accurate, and maintained in accordance with organizational and regulatory requirements.

  • Billing operations benefit from strong attention to detail, dependable follow-through, effective problem-solving, and teamwork.
