Shift: 6:38 AM - 7:15 PM
Experience:
• 2 years of experience with 3 months within the last 12 months.
• 2 years of Medical Surgical / Telemetry Unit experience with 12 months within the last 36 months (3 years).
• Travel experience is preferred.
• Experience with Epic is required.
Requirements:
• Candidates must have a Texas license or compact license (required after submission).
• This role may require floating to additional units and locations
• Local & travel allowed.

Required Skills/Experience: Must be proficient in reading and interpreting telemetry strips; RNs perform EKGs. Must be proficient in blood administration.
Preferred Skills/Experience: Experience with Cystic Fibrosis and Sickle Cell patients preferred.
Required Credentials: RNs must take a Relias EKG exam prior to orientation start.
Special Requests: Any employment gaps greater than 30 days must be explained. Cannot apply to more than one job order on the same unit and shift at the facility. Must disclose previous employment on your resume or elsewhere within the submission for a DNU check. Parking options include on- and off-campus garages and lots: daily parking is $15+/day, and monthly parking passes range from $95 - $120. PTO cannot be accepted from 12/10 through the first week in January.
Unit Details: The unit is busy and high acuity. The unit provides surgical overflow for postoperative spine and abdominal surgeries. The unit may care for tuberculosis and overflow COVID patients requiring isolation. Patients with cystic fibrosis may require isolation, multiple antibiotics, central-line care, and blood-sugar checks. The unit handles extensive wound care, including pressure-injury staging and dressing changes. Bariatric patients may have complications after bariatric surgery, including nausea, abdominal pain, and pain-management needs. Sickle cell patients require frequent pain management and PCA use. The unit may have up to 2 code events per shift, and RNs assist with codes as needed. RNs titrate drips, including Amio, Primacore, Bumex, Lasix, Dobutamine, and IVIG. The unit handles lots of blood transfusions and chemotherapy premedications; chemotherapy is administered by certified RNs. Tele-techs are on the unit and notify RNs of changes. Respiratory support may include high flow, nasal cannula, CPAP, and BiPAP when noncontinuous; continuous support is transferred to the Stepdown unit. RT performs nebulizer treatments. Day-shift RNs participate in 11 AM multidisciplinary discharge rounding, report discharge barriers to physicians and case management, and support rapid admission-to-discharge transitions. The floor uses a walkie-talkie for communication.
Shift & Scheduling: 6 weekend shifts in a 6 week period. Holiday coverage follows the core staff rotation; clinicians are asked to be flexible and fill in where needed. Schedules are based on unit needs; self-scheduling is not available. No call or standby requirement.
Floating Requirements: Travelers are the first to float when overstaffed. Floating is limited to Med-Surg/Telemetry acuity floors.
7 days maximum time off. Facility holidays: 11/26/2026, 12/25/2026, 01/01/2027. Number of holidays allowed off: 1. Start assignment restriction: 14 days. Maximum consecutive days off: 5
2 Charge/Lead/Supervisor references required from within the last 12 months
Driver’s license required for submission
