A leading 383-bed acute care hospital in Bradenton, just minutes from Florida's beautiful Gulf Coast beaches, is seeking an experienced Medical Technologist Lead to join its laboratory team. The Medical Technologist Lead performs both routine and STAT laboratory testing across multiple specialties, including Blood Bank/Immunohematology, Chemistry, and Hematology. This role requires independent decision-making, technical expertise, and the ability to ensure accurate and timely laboratory results. In addition to clinical testing, responsibilities include specimen collection, processing, referral testing, and serving as the primary laboratory contact for the hospital's trauma team during assigned evening or night shifts. The position also helps coordinate laboratory operations, supports quality initiatives, maintains regulatory compliance, and contributes to excellent patient and departmental outcomes.
Responsibilities:
Perform laboratory testing in Blood Bank/Immunohematology, Chemistry, Hematology, and other assigned laboratory areas.
Deliver accurate and timely test results while maintaining the highest quality standards.
Collect, process, and prepare specimens for testing and referral as needed.
Act as the primary laboratory resource for the trauma team during evening and night shifts.
Maintain competency and licensure across required laboratory disciplines.
Support departmental goals related to service excellence, regulatory compliance, financial performance, and patient satisfaction.
Coordinate workflow and promote effective communication across laboratory departments.
Apply sound judgment while working independently in a dynamic clinical environment.
Qualifications:
Associate degree in Science required.
Bachelor's degree in Medical Technology preferred.
Active Florida Medical Technologist License required.
Technical competency in Blood Bank/Immunohematology, Chemistry, and Hematology.
Minimum of 3–5 years of medical laboratory experience.
At least three years of experience with regular responsibility across five or more laboratory sections.
Strong leadership, organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
Ability to work independently while supporting a collaborative team environment.
